METROPOLITAN NASHVILLE PUBLIC SCHOOLS POSITION DESCRIPTION Job Title: Ambassador - Elementary Safety FLSA: Non-Exempt Job Code & Class, SOC# 85722 Revision Date: 10/11/2022 Salary Plan & Pay Grade: Support; SCH005 Revised By: Reginald Young EEO Code: 516: Service Workers Comp Reviewed By: Lisa Spencer Funding Source: Local # of months; # of days: 10-mos; 201 days WSC 049 JOB SUMMARY & PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS REPORTS TO: Supervisor, Safety and Campus Support DEPARTMENT NAME: Safety and Security JOB SUMMARY (2-3 sentences): Helps ensure safety and security of students and school property at Elementary Schools within the district. Observes student activities for safety, patrols hallways and grounds during the school day, assists with arrival and dismissal of students, reports security concerns to appropriate district or Metro staff. Supports principal and staff with ensuring buildings are secured. The position works under direct supervision according to set procedures. PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS: List, in the order of time spent, the essential tasks performed by the position. Regular and reliable attendance is an expectation of the job. Employees may be assigned additional duties by management as required.
Job Responsibility 1:
Observes activities of students and visitors to ensure the safety of the school, including arrival, dismissal to buses and parents/guardians, lunch periods and assigned extracurricular activities. Reports concerns, acts in accordance with training in emergency situations. May be required to patrol hallways, grounds, parking lots or stand post.
Job Responsibility 2:
Responds to discipline incidents, injury, classroom disruption, etc. to address immediate safety and security concerns; may be called upon to students to reduce conflicts or respond to serious behavioral problems and protect the safety of the student or another person.
Job Responsibility 3:
Assists in conducting and evaluating fire drills. Assists with evaluation of emergency drills and exercises.
Job Responsibility 4:
Completes daily reports such as incident documentation, activity logs, hazard/maintenance reports.
Job Responsibility 5:
Communicates daily with school administrators to receive instruction and relay information.
Job Responsibility 6:
Participates in regular and specially assigned training. Wears assigned uniform/standard attire daily.
Job Responsibility 7: GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES, REQUIREMENTS and IMPACTS DATA RESPONSIBILITY : " Data Responsibility" refers to information, knowledge and conceptions obtained by observation, investigation, interpretation, visualization and mental creation. Requires minimum responsibility for only small quantities of low cost items or supplies where opportunities for achieving economies or preventing loss are negligible. MATHEMATICAL REQUIREMENTS : " Mathematics" deals with quantities, magnitudes and forms and their relationships and attributes by the use of numbers and symbols.
Uses addition and subtraction such as making change. COMMUNICATIONS REQUIREMENTS : " Communications" involves the ability to read, write and speak.
Reads routine sentences or instructions; writes routine sentences and completes routine work forms; speaks routine sentences using standard grammar. COMPLEXITY OF WORK : " Complexity of Work" addresses the analysis, initiative, ingenuity, creativity and concentration required by the position and the presence of any unusual pressures.
Performs semi-routine work involving set procedures and rules but with frequent problems; requires normal attention with short periods of concentration for accurate results or occasional exposure to unusual pressure. IMPACT OF DECISIONS : " Impact of Decisions" refers to consequences such as damage to property, loss of data or property, exposure of the organization to legal liability or injury or death to individuals.
Makes decisions with minor impact - affects only those in immediate work area. EQUIPMENT USAGE : "Equipment Usage" refers to inanimate objects such as substances, materials, machines, tools, equipment, work aids, or products. A thing is tangible and has shape, form and other physical characteristics.
Handles office equipment involving some latitude for judgment regarding attainment of standard or in selecting appropriate items. SAFETY OF OTHERS : " Safety of Others" refers to the responsibility for other people's safety, either inherent in the job or to assure the safety of the general public.
Requires responsibility for the safety and health of others and for occasional enforcement of the laws and standards of public health and safety. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS : " Education Requirements" refers to job specific training and education required for entry into the position.
Requires high school diploma, GED or vocational training. LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS and REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED : " Licenses, Certifications and Registrations" refers to professional, state or federal licenses, certifications or registrations required to enter the position.
Requires none. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS : " Experience Requirements" refers to the amount of work experience that is required for entry into the position that would result in reasonable expectation that the person can perform the tasks required by the position.
Requires six months of related experience.

Push and pull: unlimited grasp and fingering
Dexterity: ability to operate machines, tools or office equipment
Additional requirements : unlimited reaching to shoulder height; frequently climbs stairs; exposure to heat extremes, may have to restrain students. UNAVOIDABLE HAZARDS : " Unavoidable Hazards" refers to unusual conditions in the work environment that may cause illness or injury.
The position is exposed to extreme heat/cold, wet or humid conditions, bright/dim lights, dust or pollen, intense noise levels, vibration, fumes or noxious odors, moving mechanical parts, disease/pathogens and traffic. SENSORY (ADA) REQUIREMENTS : " Sensory Requirements" refers to hearing, sight, touch, taste and smell necessary to perform the tasks required by the position efficiently.
The position requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, hearing, speaking, color perception, sense of smell and depth perception.
