The Assistant Director, Regional Development is a key part of the Foundation's Leadership Annual Giving strategy that is part of the 2030 Campaign. He/she will focus on donor solicitations and engagement opportunities with a focus on unrestricted support for the Naval Academy and the Alumni Association & Foundation. This position will also closely partner with colleagues from across the organization to support regional development efforts, including Annual Giving, Advancement Services, and Donor Relations.

This position is based in historic Annapolis at our current offices located next to the beautiful grounds of the U.S. Naval Academy. In 2023, the staff of the Alumni Association & Foundation moved into the new Fluegel Alumni Center, which was built on the banks of College Creek overlooking the Naval Academy and downtown Annapolis.

This position pays a competitive salary, commensurate with experience, and may be eligible for an annual performance-based bonus, when applicable. Through the generosity of inspired donors, the Regional Development Team strives to sustain and further elevate the United States Naval Academy's goal of being the Nation's flagship institution for undergraduate education, leadership, and character development. Alumni, parents, and friends from around the country work closely with the Regional Development Team to enhance their engagement with the Naval Academy through the Naval Academy Foundation. Our team is committed to building lifelong relationships with highly dedicated donors and leadership volunteers to deepen their connection to the mission of the Naval Academy through philanthropy. Our mission is achieved by working one-on-one with donors as well as engaging others interested in supporting the Academy through high impact events featuring faculty, staff, and other alumni.

The position is part of a passionate and energetic team, all of whom are driven to advance our mission as well as their own professional and personal growth. The team works closely together to think strategically, address opportunities and challenges, as well as search for ways to improve both team and individual performance. This position reports to the Managing Director, Regional Development and works closely with a team of approximately three Regional Directors of Development. This position is supported by the Administrative Coordinator, Regional Development.

EXPECTATIONS Build and manage a portfolio of approximately 125 - 150 prospective and current leadership giving donors capable of making gifts in the 5- and low 6-figure range in support of the Naval Academy and donors' own philanthropic goals. Implement donor engagement and communications strategies in key campaign regions to identify, cultivate, and solicit prospective donors with the capacity to make gifts in the 5- and 6-figure range. Development efforts will be both virtual and in-person and include a specific focus on building the major gift donor pipeline as part of the Foundation's next campaign. Commitment to support team goals and meet individual annual goals for dollars raised and corresponding activity, such as donor meetings (in-person and virtual), prospective donor recommendations to colleagues, and other key metrics. Work strategically with Regional Directors of Development and other key staff in a team-based regional model to strengthen relationships in assigned territories which are key to achieving overall fundraising goals by supporting activity such as prospect analysis, consistent communications, events, and/or stewardship activities. Integrate into a team culture that emphasizes excellence, lifelong learning, and a performance management system that sets high expectations and drives results. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Approaches each day with grit and optimism, works with enthusiasm, thinks with intellect, and acts with honesty. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Dedication to growth and professional development with an openness to coaching and mentoring. A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. 3 to 5 years development (i.e. non-profit fundraising) experience. Highly capable in Microsoft Office products and telecommunications software, such as videoconferencing platforms. Aptitude for complex fundraising or sales database systems, preferably experience in Blackbaud CRM or similar systems. Some overnight travel required; a willingness to be on the road approximately 10 to 20 nights per year. Willingness to attend evening and weekend events at the Naval Academy, including sporting events, such as Navy football, and academic conferences / lectures. Perform or assist other duties as assigned. This position is based in Annapolis and is not eligible for telecommuting; flexible work arrangements are subject to discretion of individual supervisors.
