Under the direction of the store manager, the Store Manager Trainee will learn and work in all store functions including facilities maintenance, personnel management, sales, inventory control, merchandising, accounting, and customer service.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Facility ManagementUnderstand standard level of housekeeping and maintenance throughout the store, warehouse, equipment, vehicles and groundsLearn security processes and procedures to ensure all security and safety systems are in orderGain competency around Company image and ensureit is projected favorably at all timesPersonnel ManagementLearn all company and store policies and standard proceduresAssist with recruiting and interviewing prospective employees making recommendations to hireAssist with new employee orientation processContribute to routine employee meeting schedule to provide safety, store, and new product trainingEnsure all employees are following Company policies, procedures, personnel and safety rulesSales ManagementUnderstand store and grounds layout to achieve maximum utilization of selling areasSupervise the display of merchandise for sales efficiency taking into consideration seasonal products and trafficAssist in coordinating displays to coincide with advertisingCreate in-store promotions and follow through with Company provided promotions to promote trafficInventory ManagementLearn ordering process for feed and merchandise according to Company policies and procedures using appropriate formsGain understanding of market analysisAssist in selecting appropriate product mix based on market trends and inventory turnsLearn pricing structure and proper margin levels for merchandiseMaintain appropriate contacts with suppliers according to Company policies and proceduresLearn store monthly and annual inventory processesAccounting Management Learn invoice processingUnderstand receiving process for all vendorsLearn cash management procedures and maintain security over daily cash and bank depositsLearn to prepare the daily cash reportVerify all credit sales are within terms EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS: Associate's degree in Business Administration or equivalent of two to three years in retail EXPERIENCE: Strong working knowledge of lawn and garden, agriculture and animals (Pet and Livestock)Ability to handle many tasks at any given momentStrong agricultural experience is preferredSupervisory experience preferred PHYSICAL DEMANDS: This job includes physical demands which include but are not limited to frequent standing, walking, working on a computer, push/pull and lift/carry up to 50 lbs.
