Associate Professor of Practice, Public HealthAbout Simmons Located in Boston's historic Fenway area, Simmons has a strong tradition of empowering women and challenging traditional gender roles. The Department of Public Health provides nationally accredited degrees, both on the ground and online, for the master's degree and at the bachelor's level. We are inviting applications for an Associate Professor of Practice to join a collaborative and collegial department committed to providing student-centered, innovative instruction in public health to prepare students for a diverse range of career paths.
The Department of Public Health is a collegial and supportive community of teachers and scholars within a uniquely multidisciplinary academic unit, housed in the School of Sciences and Health Professions (SSHP). The SHHP includes undergraduate programs in biology, chemistry, computer sciences, data science, exercise science, mathematical sciences, neuroscience, physics, psychology, nutrition, and public health; as well as graduate programs in behavior analysis, nutrition, physical therapy, and public health.
Job Summary This position will start on January 1, 2025. The position is a full-time, twelve-month on-the-ground practice faculty (non–tenure track) appointment. We particularly encourage applications from members of underrepresented groups.
Primary Responsibilities Instructor of record for a 7-course teaching load per academic year;Participate in the ongoing creation of explicit and implicit curricula in consultation with program faculty and leadership;Support the department's assessment, planning, and documentation work to maintain accreditation through the Council on Education for Public Health;Demonstrate service to the department, college, or university through committee work;Support course development and revision of classes;Participate in ongoing Department curricular planning and periodic program review of on-the-ground and online classes;Serve as primary faculty contact for matriculated students, including academic advising, resolving student concerns, and verifying graduation requirements;In collaboration with the Program Director and academic advising team, ensure advising processes are carried out and monitor students' course plans and progress toward their degree objectives;Assume other duties as assigned by the Department Chair, MPH Program Director, and Bachelor's program director.Qualifications Master of Public Health required;Experience with teaching on the ground, live/in-person classes;Ability to work well with culturally diverse populations within an organization;Must have advanced working knowledge of Google Workspace and MS Office Suite, and a strong ability to learn new systems, especially web-based applications and learning tools;Excellent communication, analytical thinking, and problem-solving abilities;Exceptional planning and organizational skills and proven experience in taking initiative and taking ownership of projects;Proven ability to perform duties with professionalism, flexibility, discretion, judgment, diplomacy, and tact;Ability to manage concurrent project timelines, adapt to changing priorities, and meet deadlines.Application Instructions Interested candidates should submit the following electronically with their application: (1) a cover letter including key qualifications for the position and relevant interests; (2) curriculum vitae; (3) a statement of teaching philosophy, including a list of courses the candidate can excel in teaching; and (4) the contact information for at least three professional references.
