About the Role The Company is seeking an Assistant Vice President (AVP) for Accounting Policy to join their dynamic team.
This newly established role is pivotal in the organization's growth and will be responsible for serving as the primary authority on technical accounting research.
The AVP will provide essential insights into the interpretation and application of accounting guidance, ensuring compliance with mandated standards, and supporting the Corporate Controller in a leadership capacity.
Key responsibilities include managing research on complex accounting issues, partnering with various finance departments, leading the implementation of new accounting pronouncements, and staying abreast of emerging technical and regulatory developments.
The successful candidate will also be involved in the preparation and evaluation of financial statements, representing the company at industry meetings, and supporting the financial reporting team and the audit process.
Applicants for the AVP - Accounting Policy position at the company should have a minimum of 7-10 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a technical accounting role, and a background that includes Big 4 public accounting or a combination of public and private experience.
Expertise in life insurance and reinsurance accounting is a requirement, as is being a subject matter expert in US GAAP and Statutory technical accounting.
The role demands a proactive self-starter with strong advisory and consultative skills, a service mindset, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
A CPA designation and a Bachelor's degree in accounting are also necessary, with proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite.
Experience with other accounting software and a background in implementing accounting standards and special projects are considered a plus.
