Title: Bible Proofreader and Copyeditor Reports to:Junior Editor General Description of Responsibilities: The Bible Proofreader and Copyeditor is responsible for proofreading and copyediting Crossway's Bible and Bible resource projects. Specific Responsibilities: To proofread newly typeset Bibles and Bible resources, working closely with the Editorial and Production teams to determine exact proofreading needs on a project-by-project basis.
To copyedit manuscripts for Bibles and a range of Bible resources (including journals, children's resources, and academic commentaries), under direction of the project's editor.
To accomplish miscellaneous editorial duties, as assigned.
These include but are not limited to: reviewing the accuracy of Scripture references and quotations, fact-checking checking citation information in footnotes, tagging manuscripts in preparation for typesetting, and creating front matter and back matter files for certain Bible projects.
To assist with the reprint correction process.
To attend regular meetings with the Editorial team and the Production team.
To communicate with others in the Bible department and with other departments.
Qualifications: Experience copyediting or proofreading according to principles set forth in the The Chicago Manual of Style, 17th or 18th edition.
Experience working in Microsoft Word.
Experience working in Adobe InCopy, preferred but not necessary.
Familiarity with the SBL Handbook of Style is a plus.
Familiarity with biblical languages is a plus.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Highly organized and detail oriented.
A bachelor's degree is required.
