Biomedical Electronics Technician Location Ames, IA (North Old Town area) : Position Summary Under general supervision, tests, maintains and repairs clinical engineering equipment. Participates in medical equipment and systems technology planning, purchase evaluations and technology management Position Responsibilities Unit Specific Position Responsibilities Installs, calibrates, test, repairs and troubleshoots a wide and diverse range of patient diagnostic and treatment equipment throughout the Medical Center. Repairs or coordinates the repairs of electronic monitoring and alarm systems such as the Nurse Call system, Telemetry Monitoring System, Infant Security System and the Fire Detection and Alarm System. Performs scheduled preventative maintenance and safety testing of all incoming medical equipment prior to utilization in patient care or treatment. Assists in the evaluation and testing of new medical equipment. Performs tests of equipment and systems required by the JCAHO and other regulatory agencies. Maintains records, makes reports and coordinates outside repairs. Obtains part numbers of repair parts for purchasing when necessary. Assists in the return of equipment for repair by providing troubleshooting/diagnostic information (RA if necessary) and returning equipment to materials management. Cleans equipment, when necessary, before testing or returning to vendor for repair. Preserves the dignity of patients through maintaining strict confidentiality. Exhibits and promotes a cooperative team spirit. Performs other related work as required. Attends in-service meetings, educational programs, etc. to maintain current understanding of trends and changes relevant to the industry and finance in general. Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience Required Qualifications (Including any licensure, certification, education): Associates Degree in Applied Science in Electronics or Biomedical Engineering. Must possess considerable knowledge in the use of digital voltmeters, oscilloscopes and other electronic testing equipment as well as electronic theory, micro-miniature component repair, diagnostic, therapeutic and monitoring equipment. Must have the ability to read and interpret schematics, diagrams and blue prints; and the ability to evaluate the economics of repair versus replacement of major hospital electronic equipment and systems. Organizational Requirements: Maintain stroke education per regulatory requirements. Preferred Qualifications: Two years actual experience as a Biomedical Equipment Technician in a hospital environment.
