GENERAL PURPOSE
Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Mainstream Transportation, the Bus Attendant supports and assists the bus driver with the transportation of special needs pupils to and from school; does related work as required.
Work is performed under the immediate direction of the Bus Driver.
MAIN JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide assistance to the School Bus Driver to support students with special needs
Assists the School Bus Driver with maintaining order.
Assists special needs students transport with boarding and leaving the school bus.
Assists with loading, transporting and unloading of all students on the assigned bus.
Assists students with special transportation needs such as wheelchairs, braces, crutches, etc.
Operates wheelchair lifts and secures wheelchair tie downs, harnesses, seatbelts, car seats, etc.
Assists with the security of students on the school bus and observes the special needs of individuals.
Assists substitute drivers with route, stops, record keeping, etc.
Assists with cleaning and maintaining the bus.
Support and demonstrate core values of Transportation Services Engage in ongoing professional development relevant to position.
Respond promptly and thoroughly to written and oral requests for information.
Maintain a clean, neat appearance, appropriate to position.
Maintain a record of appropriate attendance and punctuality.

Comply with all District and School policies and regulations, including but not limited to guidelines for confidentiality.
Perform other related duties as required/assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE High School Diploma or its equivalent.
At least eighteen (18) years of age.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Knowledge Requirements for transportation of special needs students Geography of the County Skills Complete a minimum of thirty (30) hours of training before eligible to receive any training pay.
Training pay is minimum wage.
Certification in First Aid, CPR, and AED Abilities Assist students with patience and understanding Deal with exuberant behavior characteristics of youthful riders Lift and/or carry children as required Recognize students having difficulty and to quickly assist in resolving such difficulty Work cooperatively in a team environment to meet goals Organize and perform work independently Meet deadlines for all work even when working on multiple projects Show sustained effort and enthusiasm in quality and quantity of work WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Work environment is indoor and outdoors, with moderate noise, temperatures that are subject to extreme cold or hot, and some exposure to chemicals or other negative air quality elements.
The work is moderate work, requiring exertion of up to 50 pounds of force to move or lift objects.
