SUMMARY:
The chemistry technician is responsible for sample preparation, sample analysis utilizing LC, GC, ICP and/or other specialized instrumentation, maintaining supplies and glassware, maintaining inventories, preventative maintenance on laboratory equipment.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Preparation of chemistry samples for analysis utilizing a variety of wet chemical techniques in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and safety policies.
2. Processing of samples in a variety of matrices.
3. Preparation of calibration standards and solutions.
4. Preparation and handling of formulations in a variety of vehicles.
5. Works on assignments that are semi-routine in nature where ability to recognize deviation from accepted practice is required.
6. Conducts standard as well as non-standard tasks under close supervision and guidance of more experienced staff. Keeps supervisor informed regularly on status of work.
7. Perform all aspects of instrument operations including instrument set up, calibrations, troubleshooting, operation, maintenance, and instrument documentation. Specific operations include data acquisition, data editing, report generating, and instrument/data management system interfacing
8. Process analytical data utilizing validated data systems for inclusion into reports.
9. Ensure proper documentation of all work following GLP guidelines.
10. Complete quality reviews of data.
11. Operate approved plans and procedures and recommend changes to current SOPs.
12. Operate under chemical hygiene and laboratory safety requirements.
13. Maintain an inventory of assigned items
14. Maintain instrument logbooks.
15. Ensure analytical data is properly stored and archived.
16. Other duties, as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in any physical or biological science, with knowledge of basic chemistry, physics, and mathematics. Bachelor's degree in chemistry preferred.
Experience with Microsoft Office programs
Ability to successfully pass medical screen, including the ability to wear a respirator and other PPE, lift up to 50 lbs. and work in the proximity of toxic chemicals.
Must be a US Citizen.
PREFERRED:
Experience working in a GLP laboratory
1 years' experience working in a chemistry laboratory
Experience with gas and/or liquid chromatography systems.
Experience with ICP-MS
