A Joslin Clinic Pediatric Diabetes Physician is a Pediatric Endocrinologist Physician who treats patients with Diabetes of all types with special emphasis on current techniques for management of Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, managing general medical problems that may arise in his/her diabetic patients. Works in a collegial fashion with diabetes educators, including nurses and dietitians and other members of the multi-disciplinary team. Functions as a member of the medical staff of the hospital(s) where he/she may see patients. Interacts with Clinic Administrators in a positive and constructive fashion. Treats pediatric patients with diabetes. Evaluates and diagnoses types of diabetes. Chooses appropriate therapy. Actively refers patients for diabetes education, eye, and foot care, etc., per ADA Recommendations. Recognizes complications of diabetes. Chooses treatment to avoid and minimize complications. Provides ongoing management assistance. Adheres to and promotes compliance with Joslin clinical guidelines Utilizes up-to-date medical approaches, including advanced diabetes technologies. May participate in pediatric clinical research activities Treats general medical problems. Evaluates general health status. Diagnoses diseases besides diabetes. Provides general medical therapy. Refers patients when additional expertise is needed. Works in a collegial fashion with other diabetes health professionals. Participates in the development of and provides management plan for diabetes treatment. Uses consultative advice as needed regarding medical nutrition management. Uses consultative advice from nurse educator. Effects management plans in a cooperative manner and shares responsibility with allied health professionals. Effectively participates as a member of the JoslinCare team and functions as an effective team member, providing leadership, mentoring and direction to ancillary and support staff. Interacts with the medical staff. Fulfills obligations specified by Joslin Diabetes Clinic Bylaws. Functions on committees as needed. Attends and participates in conferences and meetings. Deals in a collegial fashion with other Center and hospital community physicians. Interacts with the Administrative Staff. Deals effectively with the Department Chief and Medical Director. Works constructively with the Center Administrator and other Administrative Personnel. Participates in a productive and positive way in team, department and center-wide meetings Cooperates with clinic compliance and coding activities and strives to implement changes identified during coding evaluations Participates in referral development activities. Presents lectures and promotes the program to physicians, hospital staff and potential referral sources. Participates in Joslin community activities (e.g. lectures, health fairs, radio programs). Qualifications: College preparation for medical school, M.D. or D.O. degree from an accredited school, residency in pediatrics, fellowship in pediatric endocrinology, certification and licensure in Massachusetts. Board certified in pediatrics. Board certified in pediatric endocrinology (or eligible for Board certification with certification expected).
