Department of Cardiology - Advanced Cardiac Imaging The Research Assistant's main responsibility will be helping with the FORCE initiative (http://www.forceregistry.org), an international registry for Fontan patients (patients with a single ventricle or only one pumping chamber). The primary goal of the registry is to create the world's most comprehensive Fontan data set to date with patient history, clinical outcomes, and imaging data. With this dataset, we will apply advanced analytics and leverage the power of artificial intelligence and machine learning to predict outcomes. In addition, the Research Assistant will take an active part in other single ventricle registry efforts including the Fontan Outcomes Network (https://www.fontanoutcomesnetwork.org/) and Project Singular (https://www.additionalventures.org/project-singular).
The ideal candidate is tech-enabled, can do some limited statistical analysis, and will aid in the writing of manuscripts. Depending on the quality of work, co-authorship in several manuscripts would be a reasonable expectation. The Research Assistant will work closely with and be mentored by a Pediatric Cardiologist. This position is ideal for someone who is interested in clinical research and looking to go to medical school. The commitment is for a minimum of 2 years. The Research Assistant will join a team of 6-7 individuals all working towards the same goal.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:Provides data collection, chart review, imaging post processing, and literature reviews for the above-mentioned research studies and registries.Will consent and enroll patients for the above-mentioned research studies and registries.Has positive interactions with physicians and other research members on the team.Assists biostatisticians and physicians for statistical analyses.Provides positive and effective customer service and contributes to teamwork within and between departments, divisions, programs, and other organizations, such as registry sites.Minimum Knowledge and Skills Required:Work requires a Bachelor's degree, preferably in health science, engineering, or computer science.Work requires critical attention to detail and follow-through of assigned tasks.Work requires the ability to multitask and juggle numerous simultaneous responsibilities.Work requires working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Google Sheets. Willingness to learn new technologies.Work requires the ability and desire to work effectively as part of a team and communicate both orally and in writing with site study coordinators.Knowledge of statistical software (R, SPSS, SAS) is a plus.To qualify, you must have:Bachelor's degree in a related field, a high attention to detail, organizational skills, ability to multitask, analytical skills to gather and interpret data, and well-developed communication skills.Strong interpersonal skills and ability to multitask required.Minimum of 2-year commitment.Boston Children's Hospital offers competitive compensation and unmatched benefits.
