Commercial Construction Safety Specialist
Ferguson Construction (FC) is a regionally established General Contractor that has been in business for over 100 years. FC has vast experience in the heavy and light industrial, commercial, healthcare, and institutional markets. Along with our in-house design department, Ferguson self performs concrete, masonry, steel erection, general carpentry, and sheet metal roofing and siding trades.
The Safety Specialist supports leaders in ensuring safe workplaces for our employees and subcontractors. This position also has responsibility for supporting OSHA and DOT compliance. It also has responsibility for supporting all fleet safety requirements.
Description:
· Assist in developing and implementing strategies for reducing/eliminating injuries, illnesses, accidents
· Attends project meetings, as well as owner/client kick-off safety meetings.
· Perform jobsite safety audits weekly and necessary remediation within 48 hours following identification of jobsite hazard. Attend any onsite safety meetings as required, including pre-job safety planning meetings.
· Perform all safety related training. Assist with course development and scheduling as needed.
· Work closely with site Superintendents and Project Managers to address safety hazards with onsite crew. Make necessary modifications for compliance and safe working practices.
· Conduct incident, accident and injury investigations. Collect evidence to ascertain facts. Interview witnesses. Write reports and ensure Project Managers and Superintendents deliver necessary corrective action.
· Investigate equipment and auto accidents and incidents
· Support on-site leaders in providing initial responses for all employees and subcontractors injured onsite.
· Complete site specific safety plans
· Maintain all certifications required for jobsite approval Ensure site Superintendents and Project Managers are completing weekly site audits and inspection reports. Ensure they are also doing daily safety huddles.
· Assists in the development, implementation and maintenance of safety and health policies, programs, systems, and procedures.
· Conduct new hire safety orientation
· Write/revise, interpret and enforce Safety policies
· Administer random speed check program
· Revise Fleet Safety Manual annually
· Conduct and prepare materials for safety training, meetings, and orientations.
· Review incident data and metrics to identify trends and recommend corrective action to address
· Collect data, create timely reports, and communicate trends from field inspections to leaders
· Ensure random drug screens and speed checks are handled in a timely manner.
· Ensure the worksite and all individuals at the worksite are following safety protocols and meeting the safety requirements of the company, industry, state, localities, etc.
· Work on special projects as needed.
· Reviews fleet vehicle driver performance records
Qualifications:
· B.S. Degree in Environmental Health & Safety (or related field) required
· Prior experience as a safety professional in commercial construction preferred
· CHST, CSP or OSHA 500 qualification preferred at the time of hire
