COMPUTER SUPPORT SPECIALIST
HOURLY:$20.00 SECTION I-JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY :
Under the supervision of the Director of Operations or designee. Provides software support, technical support and provides technical assistance to Cameron County Public Health (CCPH) staff to ensure knowledge of current software utilized by the department. Able to coordinate hardware and software needs for the department sites.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Employee w ill accurately document all time worked. Adheres to Cameron County Public Health policies and procedures. Ability to solve hardware and technical issues and stay up-to-date on the latest technologies. Sets up computers, installs hardware and software, diagnoses computers, and offers computer-related technical assistance to users. Maintains and updates all computer networks, stand-alones, and portable computers as required by Cameron County computer usage policies and procedures. Installs, tests, trouble shoots, and trains employees on purchased software such as Word, Excel and others as added. Assists in software purchasing decision-making. Ability to work with server connections and routers. Conducts scheduled on-site training seminars on basic computer functions and software utilization. Conducts preventative equipment maintenance on items such as printers, back-ups, and tape drives by instructing clinics or individuals of correct and or incorrect usage. Cleans all support equipment on a routine basis. Assists with inventory of all department assets. Ships or exchanges equipment as necessary. Works with the other computer support staff to troubleshoot IT related issues within the department. Works with the leadership team and staff to determine the need for replacing or modifying existing systems. Orders necessary supplies and equipment for department and maintains inventory log in order to purchase items prior to exhausting inventory. Compiles reports involving status of projects. Other duties as assigned. SECTION II-JOB REQUIREMENTS EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's Degree in computer science or related field from an accredited college or university OR Associate's Degree in computer science or related field from an accredited college or university plus two years of work experience in a responsible position that provided thorough knowledge of information technology and computer systems. Every two years of experience directly related to the duties of the job can substitute for every one year of required education.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Must be able to read and write in English. Must be able to communicate with the public. Knowledge of all codes and fields. Knowledge of report compilation. Able to train new employees on current software. Maintain and update all computer networks, stand-alones, and portable computers as required by Cameron County computer usage policies and procedures. Must be able to thoroughly explain and utilize peripherals associated with software utilization such as scanners and others as added. Assist in software purchasing decision-making. Must be able to travel 100% of the time. Must provide own transportation.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must have a valid Texas Driver's License, comply with State of Texas Driving Laws, and maintain an acceptable driving record. Must have reliable transportation. Employees of Cameron County may be required to work during any natural disaster or emergency, extended hours and non-traditional work schedules (i.e., Saturdays and Sundays). Criminal background check is required for employment or continued employment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Good health and physical condition sufficient to permit full performance of the duties of the position. If additional assistance is required, employee must request assistance prior to performing the assignment.
SECTION IV-JOB DIMENSIONS CONTACTS: EXTERNAL CONTACTS: Occasional contact with other health, social and educational care agencies, outside organizations. Frequent contact with clinic clientele. Communication is via telephone, written communication and face to face.
INTERNAL CONTACTS: Utilizes tact when dealing with County employees, health, social and educational care providers, and clientele regarding operations issues. Constant contact with County Personnel. Communicating is primarily face-to-face, via telephone and through written communication.
RESPONSIBILITY: Comply with Cameron County, Cameron County Public Health and Department of State Health Services rules/regulations and display a positive public image. As a Cameron County employee, the identity of every client shall be kept confidential except to the extent necessary to carry out the purpose of an investigation, hearing, or judicial proceeding.
DIFFICULTY: Judgement is required to ensure completion of job activities as assigned by the Immediate Supervisor or designee. Uses discretion to achieve work goals. Initiative is constantly required to achieve work goals.
GUIDANCE: As assigned by Immediate Supervisor or designee. It is the responsibility of the employee to know and maintain contact with their Immediate Supervisor or designee.
WORKING CONDITION: Working conditions are primarily in a clinic, office, or community center.
