Job Description and Duties Under the supervision of the Senior Engineer, Water Resources, performs difficult civil quality control inspections that include, but are not limited to, excavation; soils testing; backfill compaction; concrete forms and reinforcing bar; concrete placement and concrete curing; engineered features on heavy civil projects including, pumping plants, power plants, pipelines, dams, roads, and other similar structures for the State Water Project. May act as lead person to other employees and consultant staff when directed. Maintains daily records of work progress and computes quantities for the monthly progress pay estimates. At the field construction office and on project job sites: reviews contractors' work for conformance to approved submittals, Department directives and responses to requests for information (RFIs), plans, specifications, applicable codes, and standards; provides liaison services between contractors and designers. Will also review and provide input to the Department's design and construction administration staff regarding incoming contractor correspondence such as submittals and RFIs.

Special Requirements Applicants must be able to travel on short notices including overnight lodging on some assignments and be willing to work irregular hours during outages or emergencies and may be required to work extended amounts of overtime. Regular assignments may also include extended overnight travel.
Must possess a valid California driver's license when conducting State business that requires driving a vehicle. May be required to travel on public roadways including traveling to remote areas.

We are looking for candidates with high level experience with civil quality control inspections, including excavation; soils testing; backfill compaction; concrete forms; reinforcing bar; concrete placement; concrete curing and engineered features, on heavy civil projects including, pumping plants, power plants, aqueducts, pipelines, levees, bypasses, dams, roads, buildings, and other similar structures for the State Water Project. Experience with As-Built drawings; construction surveys; computations; and tabulating and checking of construction survey notes. Candidates need to be proficient in standard office productivity software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook; have excellent organization skills; and the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
