Position Summary: The Coordinator for Student Activities and Programming provides assistance in advising and directing various programming efforts for student organizations. This includes, but is not limited to, promoting, coordinating, and evaluating on-and off-campus social programs and activities, with a primary focus on late-night and weekend programming.
Specific Job Duties & Tasks: Advise individual students and assigned student organizations in the co-curricular setting, based on student development theory. Provide training for students in the areas of leadership, programming, marketing, problem solving and finances. Act as facilitator and program presenter for recognized student organizations, University departments, and affiliated organizations/conferences as appropriate. Communicate, interpret, and enforce appropriate University policies. Assist student organizations in policy/procedure development and implementation. Continue the development and assessment of student life and campus activities programming to enhance student learning and achievement, both in and outside the classroom. Develop measurable learning outcomes for and conduct assessments of both staff-sponsored and student-sponsored programs and activities. Prepare reports of learning outcomes and assessment results. Promote, coordinate, and evaluate ongoing social programs and activities, on- and off-campus, with a primary focus on late night programming; seek out opportunities for collaboration within student organizations, campus departments, and other local constituents in implementation of late night programming. Serve as primary advisor to the Iowa Memorial Union student programming board/Campus Activities Board (CAB) and BIJOU Film Board. Advise members of the Executive Board on the organization, implementation, and evaluation of CAB programs and activities; and assist with planning of Executive Board and organization retreats. Meet with University officials (e.g., Admissions, Alumni Association, Intercollegiate Athletics, Iowa Memorial Union, Orientation Services, Recreational Services, University Housing and Dining, IMU Marketing and Design) and community leaders to discuss various aspects of student life and campus activities programming. Assist with the planning and execution of OnIowa! Welcome Week Late Night programs, Family Weekend programs, and Thursdays on the Terrace events May supervise graduate assistants, practicum students or hourly employees as assigned. Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in a field relevant to the position, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience. Demonstrated experience (typically 6 months to 1 year) advising, developing, coordinating, and evaluating student life and campus activities programming, or related experience. Experience with creating a welcoming and respectful work environment as well as experience working with students of color and other historically underrepresented students, and/or students with a variety of backgrounds and perspectives. Demonstrated working knowledge and application of oral and written communication techniques and relationship building skills that develop the ability to clearly communicate and work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and collaborative manner. Working experience with standard office computer applications. Willingness and ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends. Desired Qualifications: Master's degree in Student Development or related discipline. Working experience with website content management. Extensive leadership experience as a member of or an advisor to a student programming board. Extensive experience in planning, organizing, and executing large student life programs and events. Basic experience creating and managing a budget. Basic experience developing and implementing programmatic and student learning assessment.
