Custodian (Day) Reports to: Assistant Superintendent/Building principal
Supervises: n/a
Qualifications: Basic reading and writing skills
Ability to follow directions and work independently
Job Goal: Maintain district facilities in a clean and safe manner.
Employment Terms: 260 days x 8 hours (2080 hours)
176 days x 5 hours (880 hours)
FLSA Classification: Non exempt
Evaluation: Annually by Assistant Superintendent/Building Principal

Regular Requirements: Stand for extended periods; twist at the neck and trunk; bend at the waist; stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl; reach with hands and arms overhead, above shoulder, and horizontally; lift/move up to 50 pounds; handle objects and tools with hands and operate equipment
Occasional Requirements: Lift/move up to 75 pounds
Visual Requirements: Close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, ability to adjust focus
Hearing/Speaking Requirements: Adequate to exchange information
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
As Needed / Ongoing:
Keep building and premises (sidewalks, driveways, and play areas) neat and clean at all times. Know the location and proper care and use of all fire fighting equipment. Maintain clean and orderly storage rooms, including tools and supplies. Promptly report hazards to the building principal. Operate and maintain buffers, sanders, vacuum cleaners, and other janitorial equipment. Move equipment and/or furniture when needed.
Set up and remove folding tables and other equipment for lunch, recreation, or special events. Make requested deliveries to classrooms.
Daily:
Open assigned building each morning, including lights and heat/air. Sweep and mop cafeteria floor after breakfast and after lunch. Stock and maintain all bathroom supplies throughout the day. Sweep and mop all hallways and rooms. Perform light maintenance in and around the building.
Weekly:
Clean all windows, woodwork, metalwork and door mats. Dust lockers. Inventory and order custodial supplies in accordance with district purchasing procedures.
Monthly:
Dust blinds. Inspect fire extinguishers, lights and ballasts, and HVAC filters.
Winter Inclement Weather:
In the event school is cancelled due to winter precipitation, restore safe parking lots, walkways, steps, etc.
prior to classes resuming.
This includes plowing, shoveling, de-icing and sanding.
Summer:
During summer break, conduct seasonal and annual maintenance rather than daily tasks.
Clear each classroom of all equipment and strip, clean, and seal floors. Shampoo carpets. Paint as needed. Move furniture. Organize cleaning procedures. Perform non-routine maintenance. Pick up outside trash and weed-eat.
Other:
Comply with all federal, state, and local laws, board policies, and procedures. Utilize professional behavior in all school-related interactions. Perform all other tasks as requested by supervisor.
