Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Design Engineer/Planner specializing in fiber optic technology to join our telecommunications team. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, planning, and implementing fiber optic networks to ensure efficient and reliable communication systems. This role requires a deep understanding of fiber optic technology, network design principles, and industry standards. Network Design and Planning: Develop detailed designs for fiber optic networks, including layout, routing, and equipment specifications. Conduct site surveys and feasibility studies to determine optimal network design. Create and maintain comprehensive network documentation, including schematics, diagrams, and maps. Project Management: Coordinate with project managers, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure timely and cost-effective project delivery. Prepare project plans, schedules, and budgets, and monitor progress against these benchmarks. Manage procurement of materials and equipment required for network deployment. Technical Expertise: Stay updated with the latest advancements in fiber optic technology and industry best practices. Provide technical guidance and support to installation and maintenance teams. Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues related to fiber optic networks. Compliance and Standards: Ensure all designs and implementations comply with relevant industry standards, regulations, and safety guidelines. Conduct quality assurance checks and audits to maintain high standards of network performance and reliability. Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including IT, operations, and customer service, to align network design with business objectives. Communicate effectively with clients, vendors, and regulatory bodies to facilitate smooth project execution. Prepare and present technical reports, proposals, and presentations to stakeholders. QUALIFICATIONS Education: Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, telecommunications, or a related field. A master's degree is a plus. Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in fiber optic network design and planning within the telecommunications industry. Proven track record of successfully managing and delivering complex projects. Technical Skills: Proficiency in fiber optic design software and tools (e.g., AutoCAD, GIS, Visio). Strong understanding of fiber optic components, transmission systems, and network architectures. Knowledge of industry standards and regulations (e.g., ITU-T, IEEE, ANSI). Soft Skills: Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills. Strong organizational and project management abilities. Effective communication and interpersonal skills. Certifications: Relevant certifications such as Certified Fiber Optic Technician (CFOT) or Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) are highly desirable. Work Environment: This position may require occasional travel to project sites and client locations. Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with changing priorities.
