Job Summary
Directs the strategic planning and daily operations of the assigned academic advising services that align the advising initiatives for KSU's undergraduate population.
Supports KSU's mission and values and consults with the department leadership team to address overall quality of advising services and deliverables and ensures milestones are met.
Plans, develops, and manages established advising policies and integrates transactional and transformational advising methods into consistent workplace practices.
Responsible for management of assigned staff, department budget, allocation of resources and resolves problems within advising services.
Ensures academic advising unit supports the success of students in meeting academic and graduation goals.
Assists in the resolution of students' academic issues and serves as a resource to students, faculty and staff seeking assistance.
Provides direct supervision to the assigned departmental advising team and includes hiring, training and performance management.
Responsibilities KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides vision and strategic direction in planning, managing and participating in academic advising and student engagement initiatives

Directs the daily operations of the assigned academic advising services that align the advising initiatives for KSUs undergraduate population in the college
3.
Consults with the leadership team to address overall quality of advising services and deliverables and ensure milestones are met
4.
Plans, develops, and manages college-wide advising policies and integrates transactional and transformational advising methods into consistent workplace practices
5.
Ensures academic advising unit supports the success of students in meeting academic and graduation goals
6.
Plans, develops, and manages a budget to determine fiscal priorities and allocates funds, accordingly, approves or denies expenditures
7.
Monitors budget performance and corrects variances as needed
8.
Provides financial analyses, projections, and reports to support budget development and management
9.
Acts as a key resource for faculty and administrators and interprets policies related to academic advising
10.
Oversees all transactional advising (i.e., tracking statistics, file documentation, academic planning, and program assessment.)
and identifies any technical problems and implements appropriate solutions
11.
Directs and manages the assigned academic advising unit; recruits, screens, hires, trains, counsels and/or disciplines advising staff
12.
Assesses workflow priorities and delegates work assignments accordingly, reviews work of staff to ensure quality and accuracy
13.
Meets with student groups on an ongoing basis to build rapport and assists students in understanding policies, rules governing exceptions, and required academic documentation
14.
Provides proactive and timely outreach, referrals, and interventions within the student population through a variety of communication methods
15.
Provides guidance to academic advisors, faculty, and departmental staff, as appropriate,) in partnership with Academic Advising Services and other campus resources
16.
Monitors changes in the educational system and recommends related policy and/or procedural changes to the leadership of Academic Advising Services
17.
Ensures the high-quality performance, professionalism and customer-service standards are consistently maintained
Required Qualifications Educational Requirements
Master's from an accredited institution of higher education in a related field
Required Experience
Minimum four (4) years of experience as an academic advisor (or closely related profession) and two (2) years of supervisory experience in a closely related profession
Preferred Qualifications Additional Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated proficiency in academic advising as evidenced by the peer, supervisor, and student evaluations, as well as Banner, Nolij, EAB SSC and comparable tools
Demonstrated success in working with students in a service-oriented environment
Interpersonal skills are required to effectively work with staff, students, and establish rapport with faculty members and academic staff, and demonstrated sensitivity to cultural diversity
Analytical, organizational, and computer skills (MS Office Suite) required
Strong knowledge of academic advising, including policies, academic disciplines, coursework, and graduation requirements, is especially important
Knowledge of PeopleSoft and EAB Student Success Collaborative preferred
Proposed Salary
The budgeted salary range is $65,400 to $80,000.
Offers are based on relevant experience.

Able to ensure and apply compliance with legal, financial, and university policies and external regulations
Able to assist in all other college-level and/or departmental initiatives and campus-wide committees and events such as New Student Orientation, Preview Day, Open House, and Commencement
Able to serve on committees, task forces, and various departmental meetings pertaining to academic advising
Able to handle multiple tasks or projects at one-time meeting assigned deadlines
KNOWLEDGE
Maintains knowledge of policies and accreditation requirements on aspects related to curricula, sequencing, academic statuses, academic eligibility, and exceptions to registration regulations
Understands and monitors college benchmarks and supports student persistence initiatives and efforts
Strong knowledge of academic advising, including policies, academic disciplines, coursework, and graduation requirements, is especially important
Knowledge of PeopleSoft and customer relationship management systems
SKILLS
Proficient with Advising software and act as a resource to campus partners
Strong communication skills to clearly and effectively communicate information to internal and external audiences, client groups, and management
Advanced analysis and problem-solving skills
Ensures staff are informed of changes and updates
Recommends professional training and development opportunities for staff
Excellent interpersonal, initiative, teamwork, problem-solving, organization, communication (verbal and written), time management, project management, and presentation skills
Proficient with computer applications and programs associated with the position (i.e.
Microsoft Office suite)
Strong attention to detail and follow up skills
Strong customer service skills and phone and e-mail etiquette
