Responsibilities The College of Nursing (CON) Director of Communications strategically develops, implements, and evaluates all communications, marketing, and promotional activities for the college.
Independently oversees the creation of a wide variety of internal and external communications such as news releases, speeches, websites, social media, marketing materials, event materials, signage, etc. Ensures communications are consistent with and reflect the strategic vision of the CON and consistently advances its mission and goals. Serves as an active member of the college's leadership team and participates in strategic planning. Identifies and manages communication projects on behalf of the CON including organizing any research, obtaining necessary approvals and measuring results. Collaborates with other departments, both within the college and across the university, on news, events and programs. Participates in developing, writing and editing communications, ensuring each is strategically tailored to specific audiences and in accordance with accepted stylistic standards. Provides guidance and direction to staff involved in media, communications or marketing services and programs within the college including reviewing documents, providing timelines and appropriate next steps, and creating procedures. Establishes measures for monitoring accountability and effectiveness of the college's communications efforts and provides recommendations and plans for improvement. Actively participates in the life of the college, including attending events, meetings and other activities, as well as maintains effective working relationships with campus and community partners. Interprets and applies related university policies and procedures, laws, rules, and regulations in addition to journalism ethics, rules and procedures. Qualifications Bachelor's degree and six (6) years of experience related to media, communications, and/or marketing services; or a high school diploma/equivalent and experience equal to ten (10) years in the same. (Note: post-high school education can substitute for experience at the equivalent rate.)
Preferred Qualifications Significant, demonstrated professional expertise and experiences within strategic communication and marketing. Three or more years' experience working within a college or university environment. Experience managing and/or collaborating with cross-functional teams, developing marketing strategies and executing successful campaigns. Knowledge of the principles and practices of project planning and development, including the ability to estimate project costs, set and achieve accurate production timelines and evaluate work quality and completeness. Proficiency in generating content to produce a variety of media (e.g., infographics, posters, brochures and other print collateral, presentations, social media posts, media releases, websites). Expertise using the Microsoft Office suite of collaboration tools (including SharePoint and Teams) as well as widely used tools, software, and operating/content management systems (e.g., Drupal, Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter). Experience using data analytics to evaluate and monitor the effectiveness of communications and marketing activities. Proven ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively, to accomplish assigned tasks and deliverables on time with minimal error and minimal supervision. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to write and/or proofread and edit publications and materials for a variety of multimedia formats.
