YOUR NEXT OPPORTUNITY: We are looking for a strategic leader to help build the compliance, systems and innovate the payroll department. The Director of Payroll Compliance, Systems and Strategy will lead a team of managers and staff of payroll and benefits professionals. In this role, you will manage office and craft payrolls, and union benefits of a large multi-entity international construction company. This is an on-site position located in San Jose, CA.
WHAT YOU'LL DO: Supervise and provide guidance and leadership to the field payroll manager, fringe and certified payroll manager, and office payroll manager.Ensure that payroll is paid in compliance with all Federal, State, possession or other jurisdictions tax and labor law requirements.Ensure the timely and accurate reporting of certified payrolls, union fringe benefit reports, as well as craft and office payrolls.Provide long term strategy for the organization as to the growth and development of payroll platforms and team.Work to develop and create future systems and processes for greater efficiencies throughout payroll.Collaborate with HR to assure accurate data, streamline processes, identify integration opportunities, and provide effective communications.Work closely with the controller, assistant controller, operations, and HR on various issues related to new geographical areas and tax issues.Partner with field operations and support field labor relations as well as provide insights into labor strategies.Participate in the maintenance, internal and external communication, and day to day operations of the 401(k) and ESOP.Engage with IT in the development of reports and the resolution of issues with Oracle.Assist in the review and due diligence process during Merger and Acquisition activity.WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL: Critical thinker and strong analytical skills.Strategic thinker with the ability to understand day-to-day operations as well as future planning.Dynamic leader capable of leading a large group and developing future leaders in the payroll department.Understanding of collective bargaining agreements, preferably with a multi-union entity.Understanding of qualified retirement plans including union, 401(k) and ESOP.Prior experience in global mobility.Strong understanding of per diem, travel, and moving expenses.Proficient in using Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.); Oracle preferred.Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.Effective oral and written communication skills.Self-motivated and a proactive team player.Ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees, vendors, clients, and others.WHAT YOU BRING TO US: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or Business-related field.Must have payroll experience and prior leadership experience. Construction experience is preferred.Minimum 10+ years' experience in a payroll and/or benefits position with multi-entity, multi-state and multi-national operations.Experience working for a union employer is preferred.TRAVEL: Up to 25%
