The Opportunity:

The Memphis Grizzlies Foundation exists to foster conditions that lead to accelerated student achievement, ensuring that the rising generation is equipped with the skills needed to compete in the current and future economies. To that end, our mission is to find, fund, create, and connect best in class youth mentoring/development programs in the Mid-South region. Every student needs and deserves a network of positive adult role models dedicated to his/her success.

The Director of Programs will provide direction and leadership for all Foundation programs and initiatives and build capacity to conduct high quality mentoring programs for MENTOR Memphis Grizzlies. The perfect candidate will serve as the primary spokesperson for MENTOR Memphis Grizzlies both internally and externally, with charitable and business partners, advocating for the advancement of mentoring and education, awareness of and engagement in the team's and Foundation's initiatives. Additionally, this director will provide direct intake and placement of community volunteers with partner agencies.

In This Role You Will:
Leadership & Vision:

Provide guidance, training, and technical assistance to leaders of local mentoring program leaders and other community and corporate partners;

Offer individual and group training on best practices, program design and development, and program management according to current research and insights from colleagues in the mentoring field;

Serve as primary liaison with MENTOR/The National Mentoring Partnerships and participate in MENTOR conference calls, meetings, special projects, and advisory bodies.

During National Mentoring Month, coordinate special materials, organize calendar of events, and provide information to Partnership members/affiliates about suggested activities or special events planned;

Provide coaching and staff development for Grizzlies Foundation staff on mentoring issues; hire, train and supervise support staff (both full and part-time) to fulfill objectives;

Budget, Financial, Reporting:

Budget and track expenses, submitting monthly expense reports;

Estimate costs of special events, training sessions, and other activities supporting the Mentoring Partnership, recruiting efforts, and ongoing support to program leaders;

Manage the Grizzlies Foundation grant process: Applications, re-certifications, dispersal of funds and mid-year meetings;

MENTOR National:

Manage the MENTOR National relationship, including developing services/resources for members, program consultation, staff and volunteer training, and other services as requested or assigned;

Work with funded and emerging programs to ensure compliance with the National Quality Mentoring System (NQMS) and

Elements of Effective Practice for Mentoring

and other program design and management procedures;

Manage relationships/communication with current and emerging affiliate members: Coordinate agenda and logistics for quarterly professional development and other networking sessions and maintain and foster contacts between those regular gatherings;

Develop sources for training and other program development assistance for affiliates;

General Training, Facilitation, and Technical Assistance:

Develop relationships with and support mentoring programs through our Quality Based Membership program (QBM);

Develop strong relationships with youth serving agencies;

Develop and implement trainings on the theory and practice of youth development as it pertains to developing positive youth/adult relationships;

Plan and deliver trainings and technical assistance on programmatic and organizational development topics;

Develop new and revise current training curriculum so that all work is cultural relative and responsive to the needs of the field and our constituents;

Manage core training facilitators;

Training, Technical Assistance and Project Management for Grants:

Serve as project manager for the RFP processes and grantee selections paying close attention to awarding grants to a diverse group of programs. Support the programmatic and organizational implementation of selected project(s). Provide capacity building assistance to grantees;

Build and maintain positive, professional relationships with grantees. Conduct and coordinate meaningful site visits;

Identify additional projects or initiatives that will provide ongoing support for all funded programs to serve more youth in higher quality and more culturally competent mentoring relationships;

Data and Knowledge Management:

Participate in Foundation and MENTOR's public awareness and communications efforts/vehicles including special events, media relations, website, e-newsletter, social media, and print;

Coordinate with community partners to promote recruitment within their organizations and assist in the selection and placement process: follow regular recruiting procedures, maintain separate records to track the participation and engagement of their members/participants, and report monthly on the status of their referrals;

Provide local and national data and information for use in strategic partners' print and electronic/social media.

The Experience You Will Bring:

Bachelor's degree in Non-profit, Business, Sports Leadership, or other related degree programs.

8 years' progressive experience leading program collaborations and projects with track record of results.

3-5 years' experience working within corporate social responsibility/community relations, philanthropy, cause-marketing, community development, nonprofit management and/or with a board of directors desired.

3 years' experience in a supervisory role.

Ability to be vision and mission-driven.

Must be a team player who develops and sustains relationships, dependable, and highly collaborative.

Excellent public speaking, writing, and communication skills.

Excellent organizational, strategic and analytical skills.

High level of integrity and emotional intelligence.

Knowledge of issues related to youth development, youth mentoring, education reform, community development.

Ability to demonstrate professional experience in program management and volunteer management.

Ability to design and conduct training sessions.

Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office, and the ability to continually learn new technology.

Willing and able to work nights, holidays and weekends as required.

Nice to Have:

Master's degree.

Knowledge of sports and entertainment, specifically NBA basketball.
