Job Summary:

Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Development (AVP), the Director of Prospect Research and Management will be an integral member of the Development team and will play an important role in campaign planning activities. The Director will implement and manage the prospect research and management program and leverage innovative analytics to maximize the potential of WesternU's overall prospect pipeline to ensure the success of all fundraising efforts. Using best practices, the Director will develop, implement, and streamline processes relating to prospect research, portfolio development and management, and fundraiser performance metrics. The Director will lead, develop, and manage the Prospect Research Associate.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
An understanding of the donor cultivation cycle and the critical role of prospect research at each stage.
Demonstrated success in developing sophisticated prospect research and analysis to advance an institution's fundraising success.
Ability to assess the value of and synthesize large volumes of information into coherent well-written documents, and work with changing priorities and multiple projects.
Demonstrated ability to work in a high pressure, fast-paced environment with investigative and problem-solving skills, analytical thinking, oral and written communication skills, and a high level of attention to detail and active listening skills.
Knowledge of the range of resources available to development researchers, including tools and vendors.
Strategic thinker with the ability to work well with all levels of management, both internally and externally, be flexible in nature, and have sound judgment with a collaborative style that fosters teamwork and cooperation.
Passion for excellent customer service and commitment to exceptional quality.
An independent problem solver who can think proactively, take initiative, set priorities, and bring tasks to completion with appropriate follow-up.
Advanced knowledge of Raiser's Edge or other donor databases.
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook; Office 365, including OneDrive, SharePoint, and Teams.
Advanced knowledge conducting in-depth prospect research and using research tools such as LexisNexis, Foundation Center, DonorSearch, Blackbaud Analytics, and/or similar research and wealth screening tools.
Experience in creating dashboard reports using Raiser's Edge NXT and Excel.
Knowledge and comfort using and presenting through video- and audio-conferencing platforms.
Required Qualifications:
EDUCATION:

Bachelor's degree in a relevant field is preferred.
EXPERIENCE:

5+ years in a donor prospect research role within a fundraising, development, or related field in a non-profit environment. Knowledge of the range of resources available to prospect researchers and the ability to apply those resources in an organized and purposeful manner. Experience with Wealth Screenings using ResearchPoint, DonorSearch, or other wealth screening tools. Raiser's Edge experience or other fundraising software. Familiarity with the demands of Prospect Research and reporting during a capital campaign. Analytical skills with proven ability to perform complex analyses using data mining techniques to identify philanthropic patterns and tendencies in the constituent database.
Key Responsibilities:
Direct the planning and enhancement of a comprehensive program for prospect management and moves management along the entire giving continuum that creates a pipeline of donor gifts from annual, leadership, major, planned, and principal giving.
Develop prospect portfolios for each Director of Development (DoD) aligned with assigned unit, region, and/or campaign fundraising responsibilities, emphasizing discovery, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship pipeline needs.
Lead the management of the prospect and donor pipeline, developing strategies for growth, and assessment of prospect readiness for campaign planning that aligns with WesternU's current and long-range fundraising and campaign goals.
Work with Advancement Information Services (AIS) to develop reports and dashboards necessary for individual gift officers and supervisors to track activity and ensure optimal portfolio and prospect pool management.
Establish an advanced research strategy for data collection and analysis, utilizing technology and tools internally and externally to identify and flag key potential prospects.
Oversee the creation and utilization of prospect and proposal tracking information. Establish and enforce data-driven measures to assess individual gift officer and team progress towards fundraising goals and other metrics.
Lead training sessions educating gift officers on key strategies for qualification and portfolio development.
Develop strong relationships with DoD's and other fundraisers to provide regular consultation, strengthen and review prospect portfolios, and ensure appropriate number of prospects are assigned to support fundraising priorities.
Meet regularly with the AVP to review management reports and analyses, discuss progress toward division, department, and individual goals, and to anticipate future prospect needs.
Contribute to high-level strategic discussions relating to campaign goals, prospects, portfolios, and pipeline by providing analyses, reports and other input for decision making.
Lead the Prospect Research Associate by utilizing and achieving SMART goals for the department and staff, and developing staff members' skill sets through mentoring, coaching and training.
Develop and implement policies and standards for donor/prospect research projects to ensure data collection conforms to ethical principles, confidentiality requirements, FERPA regulations and public information laws.
Train division employees on prospect management policies and data entry requirements.
Effectively and proactively communicate with colleagues and university leadership verbally, in writing, or through a variety of presentations.
Serve as the principal authority on prospect research profiles and philanthropic trends.
Participate in professional associations such as APRA, AHP and/or CASE to increase knowledge and skills and to stay abreast of industry trends and concerns; train staff in research methodology and most efficient means to utilize resources.

Work Schedule:

This is a full-time, exempt-level position. The regular hours are Monday – Friday, 8 am – 5 pm. Availability for occasional evening and weekend work.

Expected Pay Scale:
Minimum: $115,000.00
Maximum: $125,000.00
