We're on the lookout for someone special to head our Surgical Services department at our critical access hospital, where we proudly perform around 800 surgeries each year.
Our talented surgical team covers a wide array of procedures, from general surgery to ENT, urology, and podiatry with a heavy focus in orthopedics with our two in house providers, Dr. Travis Stoner an Dr. Melissa Lawrence, and MAKO robot.
At our core, we prioritize quality care over the number of procedures, ensuring every patient receives the attention and treatment they need.


In this exciting role, you'll have the opportunity to oversee our latest enhancements, including our newly added Pre/Post Operative Suites and Sterile Processing areas.
You'll also guide our remodeled Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) and the integration of a second operating room into our operations.

POSITION PURPOSE:
Manages, monitors, and maintains effective department operations in the areas of Operating Room, Post Anesthesia Recovery Room and Sterile Central Processing.
Oversees, develops and guides strategic planning and overall operations to ensure quality department outcomes.


QUALIFICATIONS: Current Nebraska RN Licensure Minimum of 2 years of OR experience Basic Life Support (BLS) Bachelors Degree in Nursing preferred Certification in OR preferred Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

1.
Manages all aspects of OR Services department operations effectively and efficiently.
Oversees day-to-day operations, which includes problem solving issues and insuring effective processing.
Organizes and manages quality assurance functions in close co-operation with the customers and with Fillmore County Hospitals management team.
Develops and documents department procedures to insure consistent and accurate processing.
Ensures service levels are achieved and maintained.
Makes adjustments where necessary to meet service level requirements.
Works with other departments in providing services and resources.
Monitors workflow and departmental processes.
Develops and maintains department policies.
Sets and achieves department goals and objectives.

Coordinates and supervises patient care in the Perioperative Services.
Develops and implements plans for the provision of care for the patient population related to the services provided and the ages served.
Develops strategies to carry out the plan for the Perioperative Services & Outpatient Clinic Departments in collaboration with Nursing Leadership.
Develops and maintains department standards of patient care and standards of nursing practice consistent with current nursing research, nationally recognized professional standards and the hospital plan for the provision of care.
Evaluates the overall provision of care in compliance with established standards and regulatory agency requirements, in accordance with Nebraska Nurse Practice Act, Association of Operating Room Nurses Standards, and Perianesthesia Standards.
Establishes the delegation of authority and responsibility among employees including division of work, job design and work process flow.
Communicates all necessary information with appropriate departments and teams regarding patient/customer care.

Plans and develops a systematic process for monitoring and evaluating quality and appropriateness of patient care.
Coordinates nursing performance improvement activities with Perioperative Services and Outpatient Clinic Nurse Leadership.
Involves nursing staff in the concurrent and retrospective monitoring of data in order to evaluate the impact of the results on patient care.
Oversees and follows up on reported ActionCues pertaining to surgical department.

Demonstrates knowledge of standards of care related to the Outpatient Clinics and Surgery areas for all ages served.
Receives Communication, Concern, Complaint (CCC) Reports from patient, staff or medical staff and completes investigation and follow-up.
Implements proactive measures to ensure patient safety (knowledgeable of National Patient Safety Standards, ISMP Alerts and other resources).
Reviews educational needs of patients and develops/obtains resources to meet the needs of the patients.
Functions as a resource person for clinical staff.
Ensures that Medical Director is informed/involved in the department.
Updates, maintains and trains employees on the Patient Care & Scheduling system dictionaries.

Recruits and develops a qualified and productive workforce.
Maintains and creates department job descriptions to represent positions accurately and clearly.
Recruits and interviews and selects qualified candidates following established hiring practices and guidelines.
Orients new employees in a thorough manner to department and organizational operations, policies and procedures.
Provides training to department staff in an appropriate and thorough manner.
Offers opportunity for continuing education by sharing own knowledge, accessing internal opportunities, and considering external opportunities to support the continued development of department staff.
Monitors and verifies the compliance of staff in regards to maintaining required licenses and certifications, as applicable.
Uses labor resources, such as overtime, agency assistance, etc...effectively.

Performs employee relations functions effectively to promote a positive work environment, influence retention and enhance communication.
Develops, supports and actively seeks activities and establishes an environment that promotes recognition and retention for employees.
Communicates effectively and provides feedback to staff which may include department meetings, individual employee meetings, rounding, etc.... Interprets and applies department and organizational policies with consistency and fairness in managing a qualified, efficient and productive workforce.
Addresses employee issues in an effective and timely manner.
Communicates with department leadership and HR regarding employee issues appropriately in an effort to obtain guidance and reduce potential organizational liability.
Enforces and interprets policies and procedures with employees, as necessary.
Administers annual performance appraisal process for staff.
7.
Manages departmental financial operations.
Maintains, develops, monitors and reports budgets, expenses, variances and strategic planning for department.
Maintains timekeeping records and updates appropriately and accurately for department staff.
Works with vendors and management, as appropriate, to negotiate best value purchases.
Participates in annual budgeting planning process.
Participates in charge development and implementation.

Follows HIPAA regulations and ensures that the confidentiality of patients medical, personal, financial records, employee records, and organizational records is maintained.

Participates in FCH committees, quality assurance, performance and quality improvement initiatives, and activities which support the facility and department operations.


10.
Complies with the state and federal regulatory requirements related to the performance of FCH operations and requirements of the FCH Compliance Program.
Including but not limited to: The Compliance Policy.
Completes all on-line training annually and as assigned.
All department and organization-wide policies.
Considers the impact of regulations such as Critical Access Hospital requirements, along with Federal and State of Nebraska regulations and discusses concerns appropriately to ensure compliance.
