Job Duties VDOT's Lynchburg District is seeking a highly qualified District Engineer for their Location & Design section. As the qualified candidate, you will:
• Provide management, leadership, and direction for the section.
• Plan, organize, and monitor project activities for internal employees and consultants.
• Provide fiscal management and technical guidance on a wide variety of transportation projects • Train and develop team members.
• Oversee consultant design projects.
• Provide guidance and quality assurance for the development of road plans.
• Manage budgets to ensure expenditures do not exceed allocations by providing oversight and direction to the development and management of budgets for each functional area.
• Participate with other top departmental senior managers in implementing agency mission, goals and objectives.
• Respond to inquiries from the public, DOT officials, CTB members, news media, and local, state, and federal agencies concerning district transportation activities, problems, projects, etc.
• Demonstrate considerable knowledge of sound engineering practices and project management procedures to address transportation related matters.

Minimum Qualifications • Valid Professional Engineer's license.
• Skill in effective communication, both orally and in writing, with diverse groups.
• Experience building networks and relationships with employees from other divisions, field personnel, contractors, manufacturers and FHWA representatives.
• Experience in roadway construction methods, standards, specifications and materials.
• Experience in leadership coaching, counseling, training, development and effectively planning and scheduling work of diverse teams.
• Degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
• Progressively responsible managerial experience demonstrating administrative, managerial and leadership principles and practices.
• Skill in managing the delivery of exemplary customer service by self and others.
• Experience applying roadway safety measures impacting roadway standards and special designs.
• Experience applying civil engineering principles related to roadway design and standard design technical knowledge.
Additional Considerations • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
