Who You Are:
Versar is seeking a remote full-time Wetland Scientist in support of the Environmental Planning and NEPA Program with strong technical skills related to wetland science and general NEPA experience to assist the team with a variety of tasks associated with natural resources and NEPA projects. Versar is seeking a certified Professional Wetland Scientist.
The position is organized under Versar's Environmental Management (EM) group and is remote and can be located anywhere. Projects would involve National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) analysis of resource planning, transportation, construction, and other infrastructure projects and programs largely in support of the Department of Defense (DoD). Candidates must have a flexible work schedule with availability to meet occasional priority deadlines outside of normal working hours, be motivated to learn, and work well with others. Overnight travel and field work is required for this position.

What You'll Do:
Performing wetland delineations, including leading a field team.
Serving as the environmental lead and project manager on various stages of project development including environmental planning, NEPA documentation and permitting.
Writing, research, and field work in support of the preparation of wetland delineation reports, Section 404 permit applications, natural resources management plans, and other environmental studies.
Preparing compensatory wetland mitigation plans.
Conducting coordination with the USACE regarding project permitting and compensatory mitigation plans.
Serving as both a NEPA generalist (provide support in multiple environmental resource areas), and as a wetland specialist.
Mentoring other team members.
Contributing to project proposals, cost estimates, and business development materials.
Assisting in the preparation, review, and QA/QC of technical reports and plans.
Reviewing and analyzing technical studies, compliance reports, permit applications, NEPA documents, and similar reports/documents.
Communicating with government, academic, and industry researchers and scientists.
Organizing and leading project team meetings and meetings with third parties/clients.
Updating financial project management software, completing project invoicing, providing routine project updates, and maintaining regular communication with clients.
Developing and maintaining strong professional relationships with Prime and Subcontractor team members as well as DoD clients to maximize contract and project opportunities.
Supporting the preparation of Environmental Impact Statements and Environmental Assessments for complex and sometimes controversial projects nationwide, including resource management, construction, transportation, and other infrastructure projects and programs.
Participating in project team meetings and attending meetings with third parties/clients.
Planning and completing major project tasks related to the development and delivery of accurate, timely, and high-quality products and services for complex and high-profile EAs and EISs both individually and as part of a technically and geographically disperse team.
What You'll Bring:
Wetlands
Certification as a Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS).
Experience documenting wetland and stream investigations in accordance with Corps of Engineers Wetlands Delineation Manual (USACE 1987) and other relevant guidance (e.g., Regional Supplements to the Army Corps of Engineers Wetland Delineation Manual).
Experience with Trimble GPS units, ArcGIS, and/or other ESRI data collection software.
General
Minimum of bachelor's degree in an environmental science field such as ecology, wetland science, aquatic biology, botany, wildlife biology, fisheries, soils, hydrology, or related field, and 5-7 years of relevant experience.
Demonstrated background in scientific or technical writing (writing sample required).
Excellent and relevant references.
Organizational management skills and ability to perform detail-oriented work.
Ability to manage multiple and sometimes conflicting project tasks and deadlines.
Ability to support projects that occasionally require travel with overnight stays, including remote fieldwork.
Excellent communication skills, as well as strong conceptual, organizational, problem solving and research abilities.
Detail-oriented and the ability to work independently with limited supervision, as well as in a collaborative team environment.
Must be authorized to work in the U.S. and capable of obtaining government security clearance and/or Common Access Card (CAC).
This position requires a valid driver's license and compliance with Versar's vehicle policy.
Successful results of pre-employment screenings, including federal background check, MVR (Motor Vehicle Record), and drug screen
NEPA
Thorough working knowledge of NEPA and related regulations and processes (Section 7, Section 106, CWA, CAA, CZMA, etc.).
Superior writing, communication, and computer skills (MS Word, Excel, etc.) as well as strong problem solving and research abilities.
Experience working with federal and state resource and regulatory agency personnel and various permitting processes.
Location Requirements
The position will primarily work remotely with overnight travel and field work required for this position.
Compensation
Expected Salary: $75,000 - $95,000
