SUMMARY The Executive Director of Acute Care Pharmacy Services is responsible for overseeing inpatient pharmacy operations and clinical services and oversight of medication distribution and use through Grady Memorial Hospital and affiliated sites. This position will develop talent and create a culture of patient-centered services through implementation of operational and clinical best practices designed to meet patient and organizational medication-related needs. This role works with the VP Pharmacy for day-to-day execution and overall strategy and guidance. This role requires an in-depth and practical knowledge of hospital and health system pharmacy practice and systems and clinical pharmacy services. The Executive Director is responsible for successful achievement of strategic objectives and goals as identified through the planning process and as approved within the financial parameters of the annual budgeting process. Accountable for productivity, resource utilization, performance, safety, and quality in service(s).
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Oversees and is responsible for daily inpatient/acute care pharmacy operations and clinical services throughout Grady Memorial Hospital and other assigned locations.Makes provision for the interviewing, selection, training, and evaluation of all members of the pharmacy staff and creates a positive work environment.Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and best practices. This includes obtaining all licenses and permits such as the pharmacy license, DEA license, and annual controlled substance inventory.Responsible for overseeing the design, implementation, and management of a safe and effective medication-use system, ensuring that systems are developed and improved based on evidence and best practices, operating effectively and efficiently across the continuum of care.Prepares reports and conducts studies including cost analysis, preparation of the annual report, budget, and physical inventory.Leverages technology and automated systems to optimize the medication use systems.Leads development and provision of comprehensive pharmaceutical care services to improve the selection, administration, and monitoring of medications for GMH patients. Aligns pharmacy initiatives with organizational goals to promote patient safety and improve patient outcomes.Promotes the safe & cost-effective use of medications. Works with medical staff committee (P&T) and pharmacy supply chain to promote formulary initiatives.EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE Required: Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.)
Preferred: Residency and/or Masters, e.g. MBA, MHA
Required: Minimum of 7 years experience as a practicing pharmacist in a health-system setting. Must be familiar with professional and commercial phases of pharmacy. Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Understands the role of the Pharmacy Department in a health-system organization and its relationship with other departments. Should be familiar with basic principles of supervision, staff evaluation/coaching, and staff motivation.
Preferred: Minimum of 3 years experience in a pharmacy leadership role.
Must demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with various groups of healthcare professionals. Preferred: Minimum of 3 years of previous supervisory or management experience desirable.
SKILLS/CERT/LICENSES Required: Licensed Registered Pharmacist
Fully licensed as a pharmacist in the State of Georgia or eligible for full licensure within 120 days through reciprocity or exam.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a high degree of professionalism and competence in dealing with a variety of professionals within various backgrounds.
Ability to develop, organize, and accomplish goals.
Technically competent knowledge of Pharmacy IS Systems, automated medication dispensing systems, physician/provider order entry, and barcoding applications.
Ability to quickly implement change as required by federal, state, and other regulatory agencies.
Ability to analyze/evaluate data and make appropriate recommendations/decisions.
Leadership and management skills to direct and guide others appropriately.
Preparation and analysis of operating budgets and capital equipment evaluation.
Effective problem-solving skills.
