Position Summary(Basic Job Function) :

The position of 4-H Youth Development Summer Program Assistant is a temporary position starting in July and ending in early September. This position is designed to provide assistance to the Benzie and Manistee County 4-H Programs during the busy summer months. As few as 10 and as many as 29 hours per week will be worked with an average of 20 hours weekly. The work schedule is flexible based upon daily program needs and includes some mandatory night and weekend activities. Position reports to the District 3 4-H Supervising and Staff Development Educator. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
· Working with the Manistee 4-H Livestock Council and Benzie/Manistee 4-H Advisory Council members in planning, leading, and carrying out activities.
· Compiling and distributing Benzie 4-H soccer enrollment and re-enrollment packets, assigning teams and schedules, and assisting with communication with coaches.
· Assisting support staff in photocopying, collating, and laminating fair and soccer-related forms and materials.
· Working directly with 4-H staff and volunteers on fair-related activities, planning and events, including but not limited to: organizing pre-fair information, assisting during the Manistee County Fair including recording weighing of animals, managing the Fair Entry database system, assisting with 4-H classes and shows, and assisting with the livestock auction, and completing follow-up tasks after the fair.
· Performing other duties as assigned.
Applicants must be available and willing to work flexible hours during the Manistee County Fair. Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and e-mail systems needed. Must have the ability to work with people, be a team player, and a willingness to learn new tasks. Regular office hours are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. in Manistee, and Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. in Benzie, although some night, weekend hours are required. Total hours worked will be approximately 200 hours at $15.00 per hour.
Desired Qualifications Applicants must be attending or entering college or post high school education. The successful applicant will be an individual who is flexible, independent, and a self-starter who handles pressure well. He or she must be able to complete a variety of administrative assistant duties. Basic knowledge of 4-H Youth Development programs and basic knowledge of computer programs.
Proven ability in establishing and working with a diverse network of constituents and community members across race, gender, socioeconomic class, disabilities, and other differences to assist with program development and outreach. Understanding of and ability to implement Civil Rights principles and compliance standards. Combination of education and specific, relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree. Ability to lift and carry educational materials, equipment, etc. up to 25 lbs. Ability to demonstrate sensitivity, knowledge, and use of appropriate approaches, skills and techniques, which reflect an understanding and awareness of social, cultural and economic diversity of the target population served. Effective oral and written communication skills. Proficiency in use of technology (e.g., web research, Zoom, Qualtrics, Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook for mail/calendaring, distance technology, etc.). Other skills and/or physical abilities required to perform duties of the position.
