The Vice President, Controller will oversee accounting and financial reporting functions, including general accounting, medical economics, tax, A/P, financial reporting, and treasury/cash management, while partnering closely with the Revenue Cycle/Revenue Ops and FP&A teams. The VP Controller will also be responsible for interfacing with internal and external stakeholders, including auditors, and board-level sponsors on financial reporting and cash matters. Robust cash management and cash flow forecasting will be essential for the role. This is a critical leadership position in the Finance function of ArchWell Health.
Duties/Responsibilities: Oversee all activities of the accounting department, including the month-end close process, accounting operations, actuarial analysis, internal and external financial reporting, and cash management Oversee and direct the preparation of reports that summarize business results (revenue, expense, and earnings) and financial position (balance sheet and cash flow) of the business Coordinate and own the defined membership accounting policies for purposes of management reporting. Partner with data engineers and IT teams to synthesize external payer financials using PowerBI and promptly develop medical margin and MLR Partner with the FP&A team to prepare a robust monthly financial reporting and quarterly board meeting packages, including insightful analysis of key variances vs. budget and prior year, and quarterly financial forecasts for use by executive team and board Set priorities and goals for the accounting department. Maintain month-end close discipline and strict adherence to the approved close calendar and checklist. Hire new colleagues, and develop and manage members of the accounting team. Safeguard the company's assets and establish and maintain corporate accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure conformance with US GAAP and other laws/regulations Serve as the key technical accounting expert for the company. Stay ahead of future developments, oversee research of technical accounting issues, and develop policies and procedures for new accounting standards. Engage with external auditor on emerging trends in accounting rules and judgmental accounting/reporting. Ensure accounting systems and processes are continually streamlined via process improvement to achieve greater efficiencies and accuracy in the level and timeliness of reporting (continuous improvement). Define the vision and lead process redesign efforts, where possible digitizing operations through process automation Ensure that operational and design effectiveness of internal controls is maintained Ensure cost and expense control procedures are in place; analyze cash flow and expenses to guide the executive team Responsible for high-risk and elevated-judgement balances including Equity, Stock Compensation, Inventory reserves, annual Goodwill impairment testing, purchase price accounting, and liasing with third-party tax advisor on the tax provision Manage external auditors and ensure completeness of all documentation required for annual audits. Present to the Audit Committee on accounting issues impacting the financial statements, controls, and topics of special interest Own capitalization table, including new equity and options issuance and managing current ownership related activities Manage valuation processes as required, including fair market value assessments Support the CFO and executive team on key financial decisions. Serve as a strategic and technical partner to the CFO and executive leadership team. Communicate effectively with senior leadership and Audit Committee members regarding financial reporting and control matters. Lead, motivate, develop, and retain a high-quality team Minimum Qualifications: Minimum of 10-15 years of experience in accounting and/or audit roles with recent roles as Controller or Assistant Controller CPA License Value Based Care or Health plan industry experience required; healthcare services industry is beneficial Strong people leadership skills, with the ability to build a team to produce quality results in an efficient manner and simultaneously manage several projects Full understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and the ability to apply GAAP to new and existing transactions Collaborative business partner, adept in building cross-functional relationships to drive business results Demonstrated success in operating in a "roll up your sleeves" environment Strong communication skills, both written and verbal; effective and credible presenter to executive management and Board of Directors Strategic thinker with excellent analytical, critical thinking, problem-solving, interpersonal, and relationship building skills Team-oriented with the ability to help attract and retain top talent in the finance function Experience working for Private Equity backed organizations is preferred Embodies and serves as a role model of ArchWell Health's Values: Be compassionate Strive for excellence Earn trust Show respect Stay resilient Always do the right thing About ArchWell Health: At ArchWell Health, we're creating a community of caring designed to help our members stay healthy and engaged.
