Job Summary The DNR is seeking to fill a permanent, full time General Maintenance Worker Lead position at Bear Head Lake State Park in Ely, MN. Typical hours of work are 8am - 4:30pm, and days of work will vary and include weekends and holidays.

This position exists to as a lead worker assist in the day-to-day operation of Bear Head Lake State Park, Woodenfrog, Ash River, Wakemup Forest Recreation Areas, and District 3 geographic activities of the Division of Parks and Trails, performing general maintenance services with assigned Buildings and Grounds Workers, NR Workers and Parks and Trails Associates assigned to assist in grounds and facility cleaning.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:


Performs lead worker duties by planning and assigning work schedules, directing specific maintenance functions, demonstrating operation of equipment, tools, or techniques, explaining procedures and routines, demonstrating or overseeing maintenance and repair activities, estimating needs and requisitioning for equipment and supplies, and reviewing work by Building and Grounds Workers, NR Workers and PAT Associates. work tasks. Maintains and repairs facilities and infrastructure to provide clean, safe and sanitary areas. Maintain grounds and trail corridors to provide clean and safe recreational areas. Operate, maintain, and make minor repairs on vacuums, lawnmowers, snowblowers, trucks, tractors and other mechanical equipment so that cleaning and maintenance responsibilities are performed timely and efficiently. Supplies are stocked in buildings. Parts and recommendations for specialty items are researched and/or procured or referred to park management as needed for procurement. Seasonal operational tasks are done so that orderly appearance and accessibility are ensured. Assure responsibility for safety and accountability for safety performance so that tasks are performed according to established safety procedures.

Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Lead worker skills sufficient to plan, direct, train, monitor, review work of subordinates, motivate people, and obtain program commitment, Knowledge of chemical cleaning agents, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) use sufficient to handle, apply, and dispose of safely. Knowledge of methods, tools and equipment used in cleaning/maintenance sufficient to determine proper methods and use effectively and safely. Tools and equipment will include a variety of tools/equipment such as small hand tools, pressure washer, steamer, etc. Knowledge of safety and accident prevention measures sufficient to identify safety hazards, make necessary repairs, and/or alert appropriate personnel. Ability to acquire and maintain chainsaw operator certifications at the S212 FAL2 or FAL1 level with lift operation certification. Ability to read and understand written instructions on product labels, in safety manuals, operation manuals, etc. Customer Service/Communication Skills sufficient to provide information and assistance to the public and staff in a courteous manner. Conflict resolution/human relation skills sufficient to negotiate, resolve issues, read situations and settle disputes equitably by finding common ground and cooperation. Preferred Qualifications One year experience providing lead work direction to cleaning crew. Knowledge of park rules, policies, facilities and other local points of interest. First Aid and CPR training Equipment operating safety certifications and experience. Additional Requirements This position requires an unrestricted Class D Driver's License with a clear driving record.
