Position Overview: The Head of Freight Engineering is responsible for leading and developing the North American signaling engineering and estimating team. 10% travel within North America, with the potential for an occasional business trip to Europe.
The position will have significant interaction and collaboration internally with Management, Sales, Finance, Operations, and proposals/estimating teams.
What your day-to-day will look like: We are seeking someone with combined experience and skills working on sophisticated projects in the rail industry. Our ideal candidate is someone with an Engineering and Business background who has validated experience generating financial analyses and making the decisions on the allocation of resources throughout the projects.
Outstanding time management skills are vital in this role as it is necessary for balancing multiple regional requests simultaneously.
Your three primary responsibilities are the following:
Lead freight engineering department focusing on resource utilization, talent development, and growth opportunities.Work with sales and customers on opportunities for growth for the department.Research and implement automated tools to bring efficiency, reduce costs/time and eliminate errors for the freight engineering team.Duties: Heads overall organization assigned and leads all related management and staff.Implements guidelines and defines operational policies, processes, or methods to fulfill the Engineering strategy.Plans and allocates resources and budgets to Engineering projects or activities.Drives the development of technical standards and procedures for Site Engineering.Ensures obeying regional laws and regulations at site.Ensures a proficient and capable installation/commissioning workforce to conduct the Site Engineering activities on time and on quality.Provide input on bid/no bid decisions for potential work.Complete annual salary planning for the group.Conduct Growth Talks on a scheduled basis with the group.Provide periodic updates to upper management on all group activities.Collaborate with Operations on production related issues.To thrive in this role, you have: Validated direct experience within rail transport focused on rail products, platforms, and solutions.Proven experience with multi-year and multi-million-dollar successful project leadership.Externally recognized technology specialist in the respective field who uses their network.Team Management and Development.Financial budgeting and reporting.Upholding quality standards.Ability to read, analyze and interpret industry and product-related technical information.Give informative and professional assistance when working with the public/customers and co-workers.Demonstrate exceptional oral and written communicative skills.Work well independently and as part of a team, demonstrating support for team decisions.Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience: Proven business insight.Negotiation capabilities.Strong team orientation.Project management experience.Risk management.Self-motivated to produce high-quality results within the time allocated, with limited supervision.Why you'll love working for Siemens! 11 paid holidays, 18 days of PTO.401K - 6% company match.Freedom and healthy work-life balance– Health, Dental, Vision Insurance, HSA/FSA, Commuter Benefits – starting Day 1!We believe that each member of our team is accountable for making decisions, solving problems, and taking actions that contribute to long-term impact and financial success.We do the right thing. Siemens offers a variety of health and wellness benefits to employees. Details regarding our benefits can be found here: https://www.benefitsquickstart.com/siemens/index.html. The base salary range for this position in Louisville, KY is $120,300 - $162,400. The salary may be higher or lower depending on the budget and the candidate's experience, knowledge, skills, and qualifications. The annual incentive target is 10% of the base salary.
