Purpose and Scope/General Summary: We are looking for our new Head of QA & Food Safety withing our Prepared Foods Business Unit. This person will be responsible for overseeing and directing all aspects of quality assurance and food safety programs within the Prepared Foods division. This role ensures compliance with regulatory standards, drives continuous improvement initiatives, and maintains the highest standards of product quality and safety. The position reports directly to the President of the Business Unit.
Responsibilities:
Leadership and Strategy:Develop and implement strategic plans for quality assurance and food safety.Lead the QA & Food Safety team, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.Collaborate with senior leadership to align quality and safety goals with business objectives.Frequent interaction with Engineering, R&D, Production, and Operations teams.Reports to the President of the Business Unit.Regular communication with USDA officials, vendors, and key customers.Quality Assurance Management:Establish and maintain quality control specifications, standards, and programs for all products and packaging.Oversee inspection, sampling, and testing processes to ensure compliance with internal and external standards.Implement and monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for quality and safety metrics.Food Safety Programs:Develop and implement comprehensive food safety programs including HACCP, SSOPs, GMPs, and GFSI standards.Ensure all facilities comply with USDA, FDA, and other regulatory requirements.Lead initiatives to enhance food safety through technology, training, and process improvements.Continuous Improvement:Analyze quality data to identify trends, root causes of defects, and opportunities for improvement.Drive cross-functional projects aimed at enhancing product quality and operational efficiency.Develop and update policies and procedures to address new challenges and leverage industry best practices.Regulatory and Compliance:Serve as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies such as USDA and FDA.Ensure all products meet or exceed regulatory and customer standards.Manage audit processes, both internal and third-party, to ensure ongoing compliance.Other duties as assigned Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Microbiology, or related field required; Master's degree preferred.10+ years of experience in quality assurance and food safety within the food industry, with at least 5 years in a leadership role requiredIn-depth knowledge of food safety regulations, quality systems, and industry standards.Strong leadership and team management skills.Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management abilities.Proficiency in MS Office Suite; experience with QA software tools is a plus.Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.Primarily an office environment with regular visits to production facilities.Must be able to travel as needed to various sites and for industry meetings.Can perform the functions of the job with or without a reasonable accommodationAs a salaried position with the company, you may be required to travel at some point to other facilities, to attend Company events, or as a representative of the Company in other situations.
