HR and Finance Report Writer Location Golden, CO : Department Information Engineering a world of possibilities
The HR and Finance Report Writer at Colorado School of Mines creates and maintains custom HCM and Finance Workday reports, visualizations, and dashboards in support of business operations and decision-making. This includes understanding and using calculated fields and complex variables. The Report Writer collaborates closely with campus stakeholders to determine report requirements and clearly document processes. They also work closely with a team of data scientists and data analysts in promoting campus-wide values around data governance and responsible data usage. The Report Writer needs to have a strong understanding of general database functionality in addition to Workday-specific field utilization. Mines has two new positions available for Report Writers, following our recent implementation of Workday ERP. The Report Writers are part of our Institutional Research and Strategic Analytics Division which rolls up to Information Technology Services. For more on IRSA and ITS, please visit: This position works remote in Colorado and must be able to commute to our campus in Golden, Colorado at least twice per month and more as business needs arise. This posting will be used to fill more than one vacancy. Description of Job PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES REPORT WRITING Design, develop, implement, and maintain custom reports and dashboards in Workday using internal Workday reporting tools. Collaborate with stakeholders to understand reporting needs and translate them into meaningful reports and dashboards and with administrators to ensure effective protection and integrity of data assets. Engage in testing to ensure validity and proper functioning of reports. Stay current with industry best practices and Workday updates to enhance reporting capabilities and optimize system functionality. Ensure the accuracy and reliability of existing reports and dashboards by regularly reviewing and updating them as necessary. Ensure the integrity and security of data used in reports and dashboards. Understand end user security needs to ensure proper access to reports. and communicate with users to clarify requirements, resolve issues, and provide timely updates on report development and maintenance. ANALYSIS Analyze complex data sets and relationships to highlight trends, patterns, and key insights. Obtain a deep understanding of HR and Finance business processes at Mines. Investigate data quality issues, determine root cause, and design corrective plans. DOCUMENTATION AND TRAINING Document report requirements, specifications, and processes for future reference, training, and knowledge sharing. Train other campus end-users in proper usage and customization of reports. Share knowledge and expertise of Workday HCM and Finance modules. Salary and Benefits $69,200 - $78,600 annually Mines takes into consideration a combination of candidate's education, training and experience as well as the position's scope and complexity, the discretion and latitude required in the role, work location, and external market and internal value when determining a salary level for potential new employees. Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Experience and Education: Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university in computer science, IT management/administration, instructional/educational technology, or equivalent advanced technical training and experience. Individuals without a related degree may be considered if they demonstrate possession of the same knowledge level found in a degree but have attained advanced knowledge through a combination of work experience and intellectual instruction using a 1:1 substitution. 2+ years of experience in custom report writing. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities and Other Attributes (KSAOs): Advanced knowledge of Workday reporting for HCM and Finance. Demonstrated ability to work closely with a reporting and data analytics team, as well as with institution-wide stakeholders in support of navigating report solutions. Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy. Data analysis and interpretation skills. Understanding of data governance principles and best practices. Excellent relationship-building skills across multiple constituents, and varying levels of the organization. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Certifications and Licenses: Certified Workday Report Writer Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities and Other Attributes (KSAOs): Experience in HR and Finance reporting in the higher education industry. Experience creating dashboards and reports that informed change and advancement in organization. Advanced knowledge of Workday dashboard and analytics functionality, including Adaptive Planning or other forecasting techniques. Tableau reporting/visualization knowledge and hands on skills.
