Automation's impact on the railway industry is second only to the effects of digitalization. Combine them and the results are transformative! We work at the leading edge of this movement, applying our proven expertise in digitalization to rail infrastructure and automation.
Our innovative solutions deliver greater safety, punctuality, reliability, and sustainability across the line, all while reducing costs for mass transit and freight transportation systems. We are continuously developing new answers for rail automation – often to questions that haven't been asked yet.
Position overview:
As an Industrial/Manufacturing Engineer for our Light Rail Production line your primary responsibility will be to drive the continuous improvement of safety, schedule, and budget adherence through the use of Lean Manufacturing principles both on the production floor and during the production planning phases. Working with the production core team members, you will lead the team in technical problem solving for topics including standard and non-standard work, tooling, material flow, safety, engineering drawings, bill of materials, and process improvements.
What your day-to-day may look like:
Review engineering drawings and 3D models using Pro-E or PTC Creo to understand manufacturing process requirements, including job sequence, workflow, and takt time.
Define key production work steps, sequences, and durations, setting up work scope per station or cell basis.
Generate and improve material flow paths and logistical needs for each Production Work Order both in an MRP system and on the production floor.
Prepare future production floor layouts to meet planned takt time and schedule.
Prepare standardized work instructions.
Set up stations with proper fixtures, templates, tooling, and equipment.
Develop detailed specifications for jigs and fixtures for manufacturing processes using takt time, capacity calculations, engineering product design, and source jigs and fixtures from vendors.
Lead manufacturing improvements, complex process changes, and technology changes by developing a core team, assigning/reporting to a steering committee, projecting efforts involved with implementation, and generating and presenting ROI calculations.
To thrive in this role, you have:
Bachelor's Degree in Industrial, Manufacturing, or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent experience).
Minimum of 3 years' experience in a manufacturing environment, excluding internships.
Strong project management skills, including developing project plans, schedules, budgets, layouts, resource requirements, and Return on Investments (ROI) calculations.
Practical knowledge and experience in implementing lean manufacturing principles.
Hands-on approach to problem-solving and countermeasure implementation within areas of responsibility.
Understanding of tooling and fixture design for manufacturing, impacting dimensional accuracy, quality, and takt time (Poka Yoke), and proficiency in 3D CAD modeling software like Pro-E, PTC Creo, or Solidworks.
We would be impressed if you had:
Over 5 years of experience in planning and supporting new production lines in low-speed production environments (e.g., rail, aviation, aerospace, naval, heavy equipment), specifically in vehicle production, welding, or assembly processes.
Work experience in the rail industry, preferably in light rail or heavy rail production, with practical knowledge of SAP or similar MRP/ERP systems.
One or more relevant certifications such as Six Sigma Black Belt, Lean Certification, OSHA Safety, Certified Manufacturing Engineer, Supply Management, EIT, or Professional Engineering License.
Extensive experience in customer service, maintenance, or aftermarket businesses within the rail industry, with a strong background in lean methods, factory planning methods, and technology roadmaps for automation.
