Brief Description of Duties The Center for the Advancement of Learning (CAL), Instructional Consultant (IC) serves to advance excellence in teaching and learning at the University of the District of Columbia. Incumbents consult with faculty and departments to advance quality, enhanced course design and the accurate assessment of instruction at UDC. Instructional Consultants serve as an agent for faculty professional development and provide direct support to faculty in the process of building and/or teaching face-to-face, online or hybrid courses. Instructional Consultants provide instruction, training and resources in order to facilitate effective learning-centered practices at UDC. CAL Instructional Consultants strive to correct systemic instructional issues and improve the University's learning environment by recommending, developing and assisting with the implementation of effective instructional solutions for UDC faculty aimed to ultimately improve learning outcomes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Consults with departments, faculty members, graduate students and other instructional staff to help answer teaching and learning questions and resolve instructional issues to increase and improve student learning outcomes;Designs and conducts program assessments, workshops and focus groups to support instruction;Collaborates in the planning, implementation and evaluation of existing and new UDC instructional courses and programs;Assesses current and new curricula and course materials to identify gaps and potential solutions for enhancing education materials;Facilitates faculty learning communities; Serves as a change agent for implementing effective instructional practices;Supports an academic department's focus and implementation of faculty professional development through marketing, faculty communication, workshop coordination, logistics and facilitation;Maintains faculty professional development participant databases; Analyzes and assesses participant data and prepares reports on patterns and trends and conducts impact assessments;Facilitates workshops on/and participates in professional development related to the utilization and integration of instructional technologies, including but not limited to learning management systems, web conferencing, lecture capture, digital asset production and management (images, video, audio), and presentation tools;Advises faculty in the selection, creation and effective use of technology resources for online, hybrid and face-to-face courses;Recommends and implements instructional solutions that enhance, improve and advance the quality and capacity for web-based delivery of online education;Assists with troubleshooting course management system failures and assists faculty/students with inquiries;Reviews new and current online/hybrid courses using Quality Matters standards;Develops self-help guides, tutorials, FAQ fliers, and other instructional support materials. Creates and builds engaging learning materials related to instruction and educational technology (i.e. self-help guides, tutorials, and FAQs) in a variety of formats;Engages in partnership, research, writing, and public speaking that enhances the Center for the Advancement of Learning's contribution to the UDC community;Functions as liaison with in-house staff and outside vendors to assist in the evaluation of instructional and technical needs and requirements;Stays abreast and constantly researches, investigates and tests new and emerging learning technologies;Performs other duties as assigned.Minimum Job Requirements Master's degree with concentrations in education, instructional/educational technology, or related content fields; Ph.D. preferred;Demonstrated evidence of excellence in teaching;A minimum of two (2) years of direct teaching experience, college level teaching preferred;A minimum of three (3) years demonstrated experience producing high quality, effective instructional materials for adult learners;A minimum of one year of experience in areas of computing, communications, instructional technology, information systems management and information technology planning, college level experience in these areas preferred;Demonstrated success working with faculty, teaching assistants or other instructional staff to improve teaching and learning;Experience facilitating and delivering professional development and event organization, design and implementation;Experience using Web 2.0 tools, and other relevant technology applications; Working knowledge of computer operations and applications related to teaching and learning;Experience working within a Learning Management System building courses as a faculty or administrator preferred;Familiarity with Quality Matters preferred.Contact Information: All inquiries related to employment and job applications should be directed to UDC Office of Talent Management at (202) 274-5380.
