The Intern role is a short term temporary developmental opportunity for students currently enrolled in BA/BS degree programs to gain valuable work experience while learning about insurance industry employment opportunities. Interns deliver assistance and administrative support to the team to which they are assigned (typically in one or more areas of functional specialization including: claims, underwriting, loss control, actuarial or technology). Interns participate in personal and professional development through job shadowing, mentoring, and training opportunities. Key functions may include but not be limited to:
Work on projects in partnership with team members and business leaders to understand business needs and provide solutions to drive improvements, implementation, and positive outcomes. Present new and improved concepts and ideas in support of the departmental or organizational strategic objectives. Conduct reviews, audits or assessments of data, products, or programs. Assist in the creation and enhancement of programs using various systems. Create internal communications, Excel documents and PowerPoint presentations. Contribute new ideas and participate as a productive member of the department, including attendance at meetings. Participate in initiatives to modernize and support process improvement projects. Assist with ad-hoc projects/reporting. Occasional participation in projects and initiatives lead by other departments and/or W. R. Berkley companies, including audits, workshops, focus groups, task forces, etc. Attends internal and external meetings, seminars or other training events and provides feedback to peers and/or members of management. Currently ennrolled in BA/BS degree program in Insurance, Risk Management, Business, or related fields of study A strong academic record and passion for building a career in the insurance industry Gamma Iota Sigma membership or involvement highly desireable Strong working knowledge in a Windows environment, including Word, Excel, and Outlook Strong analytical and reasoning ability, including defining and solving problems, drawing conclusions, interpreting data, and making connections  Self-motivation and an out-going orientation to work with customers and associates Exceptional oral and written communication skills, your communication style is flexible to the situation, you communicate clearly and with a purpose Ability to work independently and in a team environment Calm under pressure, you have excellent organizational skills, integrity, and great follow-through on tasks Natural curiosity, you love learning how things work and you are always looking for innovative improvements You are open minded, looking for the best result, you treat team members with respect and value their contributions, you are inclusive and committed to working together to achieve common goals Demonstrated ability to achieve results by setting goals, prioritizing tasks and staying accountable to stakeholders We do not accept any unsolicited resumes from external recruiting firms.

The actual compensation for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment.
