Capable of leading the design of a large, custom, automatic assembly machine project from concept to acceptance. Responsible for mechanical design activities including the direction of project engineers assigned to the team. Is the direct interface with the Project Manager and is capable of communicating directly with the customer. Has decision-making responsibility for issues related to the concept, design, detail, fabrication, selection of purchased components, assembly, debug, and qualification of the machine. Responsible for reviewing the concept, budget, and schedule to determine feasibility; then stays within the project milestone requirements. Defines and verifies project station concepts. Communicates & Assists Department Manager as requested. Set and maintain departmental goals in keeping with company objectives. Review design concepts, layouts, assembly and detail drawings, schematics, and bills of materials to be used in producing custom machinery Extensive knowledge of electromechanical relationships and strong knowledge of machine timing Prepare and monitor workload schedules for mechanical engineers, to optimize efficiency and design simplification, and ensure compliance with project schedules. Assign work and provide technical direction to mechanical engineers. Monitor new vendor products and new technologies to continually advance BBS Automation product portfolio. Along with the Engineering Manager, interview and select new engineers. Lead the development of mechanical designs for large multiple module system and the engineering team. Program control systems for cam, servo, and air operated stations, along with test and electrical devices. Ensure the design is functional, robust, and cost effective. Innovate and use good judgment to incorporate BBS Automation standards, GAMP5 and regulatory requirements. Research and specify appropriate purchased and preferred components evaluating quality, and analyzing price and availability with regard to budget and schedule Participate in internal and customer design reviews, and applications customer visits when needed. Support mechanical Commissioning and Qualification (C&Q) requirements. Work with suppliers to find/develop the most functional and economical solutions to design issues. Work under the confines of the project schedule and budget. Problem-solve with Mechanical Builders, debug design issues, and update all appropriate documentation. Communicate ideas and comprehend information both verbally and in written form. Work closely with Controls Engineering and Build and exhibit objectivity and openness to others views.
