Position Summary This recruitment will be used to fill one part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Lead: Stage Tech and Box Office Support position for the Patricia Valian Reser Center for the Creative Arts (PRAx) at Oregon State University (OSU).


The PRAx Student Lead: Box Office Support and Stage Technician II , will be trained to serve in many of the front and back of house positions at PRAx, will be instrumental in supporting the PRAx staff prior to opening and after opening the facility, may assist with unpacking and inventorying new equipment, will help to train other students, may support on and off-campus events, and will be assigned where needed on any given day. Duties may include ticket sales, customer service, event setup and tear-down, load-in, load-out, stage management, setting and operating lighting and setting up and running sound equipment.

The Student Lead will be required to learn and follow safety policies and procedures of PRAx, and may be asked to assist in training and supervising other students in those policies and procedures. The position requires a demonstrated high level of discretion and sense of appropriateness, ability to maintain a calm and professional demeanor when working in stressful situations, as well as excellent communication and customer service skills and the ability to operate ticketing software and handle money.

Reports to: Associate Director, Audience Engagement and Education, and Associate Director, Events and Production.

Will also work under the supervision of the Venue Technical Manager, Audio Engineer, and Box Office Office Manager.

Varied schedule, up to 24 hours per week. Will require evening and weekend work.


Anticipated Hourly Rate: $17.90


Position Duties Support all aspects of running the PRAx box office as needed, and depending on schedule: Answer phones Sell tickets, both in box office and at events and/or staff Will Call Provide excellent customer service to patrons and visitors Provide way-finding and usher services at events Train and delegate tasks to PRAx student associates, as appropriate. Provide before and after event set up and clean up. Welcome and greet campus groups, camps, k-12 school groups and VIPS. Support all aspects of back of house/production office, which may include: Hanging and focusing lights Running cables Operating follow spots Audio mixing Monitor mixing Moving equipment Loading and Unloading equipment Setting up the stage Operating digital lighting and sound equipment Clean up: picking up theatres after concerts, sweeping and mopping stage, other Reading and interpreting stage plots Taping down cords and carpeting Setting up and tearing down PRAx events Physical demands: Climbing , ascending or descending from a ladder, stairs scaffolding, etc. Bending or stooping; bending downward and forward by bending spine at waist or by bending leg/spine. Fine Hand Manipulation ; fingering, picking pinching, typing or otherwise working primarily with fingers rather than the whole hand a in a handle. Pushing/Pulling ; using upper extremities to press against something with a steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward or to exert force in order to draw, haul, or tug objects in a sustained motion. Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term* Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term* International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered "full-time" by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center. Additional Required Qualifications Requirements: A minimum of two years' experience supervising, managing, or mentoring others. Ability to communicate directions in a clear and concise manner and to communicate professionally with internal and external clients. Previous experience working in sound, lighting, theater, live performance, sales/handling money. Ability to be trained on current technologies and in safety procedures.
