The position needs a self-motivated park service professional to fill a park services position. The applicant must possess good visitor service and administrative skills, be able to work independently and have the ability to perform a variety of skilled trade tasks. The applicant must be able to work rotating shifts including evenings, weekends and holidays.

Situated on the banks of the legendary Suwannee River, this center honors the memory of American composer Stephen Foster, who wrote "Old Folks at Home," the song that made the river famous. The museum features exhibits about Foster's most famous songs, and his music can be heard emanating from the park's 97-bell carillon throughout the day. Hiking, bicycling, canoeing and wildlife viewing are popular activities. Miles of trails wind through some of the most scenic areas of North Florida. Overnight visitors can stay in the full-facility campground or in a cabin.

Your Specific Responsibilities:
Compliance with the processing requirements of Chapter 215.422 F.S. is mandatory. Persistent failure to comply with this section by any agency of the state shall constitute good cause for discharge of employees duly found responsible, or predominantly responsible, for failure to comply.
MAINTENANCE: Supervises and monitors the performance of staff, providing training as appropriate. Keeps abreast of maintenance needs and supervises/schedules staff in the repairs and maintenance of park facilities and support equipment including, but not limited to: carpentry, masonry, electrical, painting, plumbing, vehicles, tractors, implements, welding, mowers, chainsaws, compressors, pumps and motors, air conditioners, tools. Operates all park maintenance equipment. Conducts safety inspections. Trains staff on proper operation, maintenance and repair of equipment.
ADMINISTRATION: Prepares maintenance logs and schedules. Develops scope of work and manage projects. Performs purchasing as necessary to secure materials for repair, maintenance and upkeep of park facilities, equipment and vehicles. Attends training sessions to increase proficiency in work-related areas. Maintains safety records and trains others in safe use of equipment.
RESOURCE MANAGEMENT: Participate in and support the park's resource management program including, but not limited to, imperiled species management, exotic and nuisance species control, mechanical and prescribed fire habitat restoration efforts, hydrological protection and restoration, erosion control. Oversees the repair and restoration of the park's historic structures.
Performs other related duties as required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
* Florida's natural and cultural resources
* the principles and techniques of the skill building trades or mechanical repair work
* safety procedures required in maintenance and repair work of structures, wastewater and water treatment facilities and rolling stock
* operational and maintenance needs of PTO and drawn tractor implements
* Secretary of the Interiors Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties (36CFR68).
Skill in:
* troubleshooting and resolving electrical problems in diesel and gasoline-powered equipment
* performing arc welding repairs; preventative maintenance procedures for diesel tractors and off-road vehicles
* effecting plumbing and electrical repairs to structures
* performing carpentry repairs to buildings and boardwalks/walkways and fence repairs
* performing grounds and building maintenance which includes but is not limited to mowing, weed eating, pressure washing, and painting
* utilizing power tools, including but not limited to, chain saws and drills
* basic plumbing, including but not limited to, repairing hose bibs, waterline repair
* basic electrical work, including but not limited to, replacing outlets and circuit breakers
* accurately preparing reports
* utilize a computer including, but not limited to software programs such as Microsoft Office Suite.
Ability to:
* participate in resource management tasks, including but not limited to, support prescribed fire activities, non-native plant removal which may include application of herbicide
* follow verbal and written instructions/directions
* work independently with minimal supervision
* maintain effective relationships with others
* identify and investigate problems
* identify and resolve repair needs of buildings and equipment
* read blueprints and electronics schematics
* operate a variety of hand tools, power tools and PTO driven implements
* operate a variety of motorized equipment
* prioritize and ensure proper completion of work
* train others in the proper use of tools and motorized equipment
* perform safety inspections and adhere to maintenance schedules
* participate in mechanical resource restoration and prescribed fires
* work outdoors in inclement weather
* perform physical labor; lift 40 pounds and assist in transporting items or other supplies of 100 pounds or more
* work rotating shifts including nights, weekends and holidays
* maintain a valid driver's license
* properly wear uniform
