The Mechanical Maintenance Technician is a day shift position at the Hanging Rock polystyrene plant, reporting to the Plant Manager. A 9/80 compressed work week schedule may be available for this position. The job will require some overtime work which would require extended hours on weekends, nights, and holidays depending on plant needs. It is necessary for maintenance technicians to be on-call on a rotational basis. Knowledge and use of a PC workstation, use of a computerized maintenance work order system, the ability to safely, and responsibly troubleshoot and repair equipment in an operating chemical plant is required. Specialized maintenance and mechanical skills are needed as outlined below.
\n Primary ResponsibilitiesTroubleshoot and repair rotating and reciprocating equipment including blowers, pumps, fans, valves, gearboxes, extruders, mixers, agitators, blenders, heaters, and other process equipment.Familiarity and expertise in a variety of mechanical techniques/procedures such as equipment alignment use of various measurement tools and other mechanical diagnostic instruments.Knowledge and expertise for installation of bearings, seals, couplings and rotating shaft assemblies.General mechanical repair including welding, machining, and fabrication.Analyze and problem solve malfunctioning equipment (ex. differentiating between an equipment problem and a process problem).Document/record work history for maintenance files and return equipment to operations.Assist with maintenance planning and procedure development/updates. Advocate for safe work and adhere to all safe work standards, procedures, and housekeeping practices.Operate mobile cranes and be certified as both an operator and a rigger.Operate aerial lifts and forklifts as necessary to complete work.Support minor mechanical design and project work as well as turnarounds. Working closely with other departments, customers and peers as necessary to ensure they are provided with quality maintenance services.Identifying ways to reduce cost of repairing equipment while maintaining or increasing the quality of repairs and increasing the reliability of the equipment.Performing all duties with a high degree of dedication to safety and environmental stewardship. Job RequirementsHigh school diploma is required.Mechanical maintenance experience such as millwright, machinist and mechanical repair in a chemical, refining, or industrial plant. This plant experience should include troubleshooting and repair of pumps, compressors, gear boxes fans and blowers. Experience of 3-5 years or more is required.Working knowledge of rim and face, reverse indicator alignment, laser alignment techniques, and detecting/correcting soft foot.Working knowledge of mechanical seals, flush pans and seal failure analysis.Capable of basic structural welding.Has pipefitting skills both welded and threaded.Knowledge of basic machining including lathes, mills and presses.Ability to read equipment prints, secure information from OEM manuals, and proficiency with measurement tools (micrometers, dial calipers etc.).Possesses basic computer skills to interface with maintenance management system and basic Microsoft office knowledge.Must be a self-starter and sell-motivated. Capable of working and communicating effectively with others.Able and willing to take call-ins and work overtime hours.Must be able to lift 50 lbs.Work involves climbing stairs and ladders.Must be able to work at heights.Must be able to wear a respirator and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).
