As the Medical Director – US Healthcare Transformation for the US BioPharmaceuticals Business Unit (BBU), you'll play a pivotal role spearheading AstraZeneca's Vision to Transform Patient Care across the US.
This is a HQ-based role reporting to the US Medical Head of the Clinical Value & Outcomes organization.
As the Medical Director – US Healthcare Transformation, you will be a core member of the Cardiovascular, Renal and Metabolism (CVRM) Leadership Team as well as the Respiratory and Immunology (R&I) Leadership Team within US BBU Medical.
The critical responsibilities of this role are to deliver on our medical missions by optimizing integrated care pathways, expediting large scale adoption of clinical guidelines, and creating meaningful collaborations with US healthcare delivery networks, professional societies, quality organizations and patient advocacy groups across prioritized therapy areas within CVRM and R&I to ultimately improve patient outcomes.
Typical Accountabilities: As a conduit of HQ and Field, drive cross-functional collaboration across Medical (CAD/MSL), Commercial (including IBEX) and Market Access to ensure alignment of objectives, reporting and the development of innovative programs / tools aligned to US Medical objectives to transform patient care.Develop and execute Therapeutic Area medical objectives within prioritized healthcare ecosystem accounts.Design and execute healthcare process improvement and other initiatives within US Medical to transform patient care and improve quality of care for large populations of patients.Seek account-centric approaches, leveraging AZ digital tools and capabilities to conduct account profiling and segmentation to identify opportunities to impact patient care based on guideline-directed approaches.Collaboratively execute the medical plan by translating those prioritized objectives to the field medical teams (Clinical Account Directors/Medical Science Liaisons).Participate in national quality engagements (NCQA, PQA etc) to support ongoing policy shaping goals.Develop account centric and customer aligned tools and resources for use by the field.Report on geographic patient impact KPIs and objectives to key internal stakeholders.Essential Skills/Experience: Advanced degree in a medical/scientific discipline (e.g., MD, DO, PharmD, PhD, NP, PA-C) required.5+ years managing programs in a team environment with a focus on process improvement & clinical care pathway optimization.Strong knowledge of population health, clinical care pathway implementation in chronic diseases and outcomes research.Strong business acumen, leadership skills and organization, with ability to navigate matrix teams and manage multiple stakeholders to deliver solutions using iterative design.An innovative thinker with practical ability to develop metrics to measure and report impact of implemented activities.Strong understanding of US healthcare system, payers, reimbursement methods and integrated health systems.Ability to travel nationally and internationally.
Travel will be ~30% of time.Desirable Skills/Experience: Cross-functional experience, including experience with commercial and/or healthcare organizations is highly desirable.Experience with chronic disease management (i.e.
COPD, HF, CKD, Asthma, Metabolics etc).MBA, MPH, MHA or equivalent.10+ years of experience in a key decision maker setting (i.e.
Healthcare systems or large accounts).Strong network in the US healthcare environment (policy makers, IDNs, health care administrators, professional societies and patient advocacy).Proven ability to lead large teams and to inspire adoption of innovative health care solutions & advance health delivery capabilities.Extensive experience using RWE to demonstrate quality improvement using both quantitative and qualitative measures.Knowledge of information/technology systems including EMR integration and clinical process improvement and care pathway optimization.When we put unexpected teams in the same room, we unleash bold thinking with the power to inspire life-changing medicines.
