Plans, develops, coordinates, implements, and evaluates all aspects of the museum's activities and operations, including public relations, marketing, and promotional aspects. Primary responsibilities include following the Museum's statement, strategic planning, implementing policies, developing programs, budget management, and identifying new funding sources.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Develops, implements, monitors, manages, and supervises museum operations with an established budget and annual work plan. Prepares, presents, and manages annual budget for short term and long-term objectives regarding staffing, operations, exhibits, collections management, and overall museum operations and improvements. Works in coordination with other finance and grant management staff and outside organizations to identify and utilize alternative funding sources. Assigns staff to special projects/events and provides guidance on priorities, timelines, and budget. Oversees appropriate non-employee participation at the museum, including volunteers, interns, contractors, and consultants. Evaluates current professional practices and trends for relevant application toward museum's collection, gallery exhibits, and overall presentation for the public. Develops, drafts, and presents Museum operations and collections policies and procedures for review and approval from the Executive Office and Tribal Council. Evaluates policies and procedures annually, recommending revisions as appropriate on Museum operation, collection management, security and programs. Responsible for ensuring the security, safety, and wellbeing of all Museum facilities and artifacts. Maintains a professional, positive, organized approach to work, setting a good example to others around a common vision for the Museum. Schedules, organizes and directs work plans, reviews performance of the Museum, and makes appropriate recommendations to Tribal Council. Responsible for the personnel management of the Museum to include recruitment, supervision, scheduling of assignments and leave, disciplinary actions, performance evaluations, training and skills development, and termination, in accordance with Tribal Personnel Policies and Procedures. Creates and maintains positive relationships with the Southern Ute membership and tribal departments. Participates on various work-related committees, work groups, and events representing the Tribe in a positive manner always while ensuring SUIT culture preservation. Responsible for the marketing and promotion of the Museum. Develops a wide variety of reports, inventory lists, and other documents, presenting information to the Executive Office, Tribal Council, Tribal Membership when required or requested. Oversees the selection, payment, booking, and transportation of traveling exhibits. Performs other work-related duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: Must have a BA/BS in History, Native American Studies, Art, Archaeology, Anthropology, or Business Administration. Must have 5 years of progressive experience in museum field of work. Must have 3 years of supervisory experience. Must have 3 years of experience in the oversight and compilation of annual budgets, including monitoring of expenses; development of policies and procedures; development and implementation of annual work plans; and managing multiple projects within established timelines. Must have 3 years of considerable work in collections management, databases, exhibits, and/or research. Must have knowledge of philosophies, principles, practices, and management of museums, and demonstrated familiarity with professional museum standards. Must have experience and knowledge of museum accreditation and modern museum administration principles and practices. Must be familiar with grants and grant processes. Must have general computer experience in software programs including Microsoft Word and Excel. Must have a valid Driver's License for state of residency and be insurable under the Tribal vehicle insurance policy. Must pass a thorough background check including Criminal History, fingerprint check, and pre-employment drug test. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: MA/MS. Supplemental coursework in management, business, or public administration. Work experience in a library or archive setting. Familiarity with research, collections, and institutions specializing in Ute items. Knowledge of Ute history and culture. Knowledge of what comprises culturally sensitive objects. Pay: $99,984.00 - $127,480.00 per year
