We're seeking a future team member for the role ofGeopolitics Analyst to join ourNewton Investment Research team. This role is located in Boston, MA or London, UK- HYBRID.
For this role, we seek a seasoned analyst of world events, policymaking, and domestic drivers in key nations and regions who can perform two key functions: translate risks and opportunities to a team of global investors in equities, bonds, and currencies, and communicate a coherent, differentiated view to our clients and prospects. The candidate must possess at least 10 years of work built around understanding how and why leaders in the developed and developing world take the actions they do, and how those actions may catalyze reactions and events by their neighbors, allies and rivals. The preferred candidate is not just someone who summarizes articles in Foreign Policy or the Wall Street Journal, but rather someone who has and can build upon a personal network of sources in governments, think tanks, academia, the media and more to cobble together a proprietary opinion of how situations and events will unfold. Understanding why leaders take the actions they do is just as important as predicting how these actions will in turn affect global and domestic economies, companies, and industries.
The way we envision this role, there are two key elements:
Internal facing: the successful geopolitical analyst will communicate insights and analyses to our investment professionals in real time, during our morning research meetings, as well as to smaller regular team meetings held by our fixed income group, our multi-asset portfolio managers, and our equity investment research "pods." In addition, this individual would engage in "hunting" activity not directed by investors but rather led by the savvy and intellect of the geopolitical analyst, raising issues and situations that may not be fully understood by the investors. This individual would also engage in "gathering" activities, meaning investment professionals may commission projects for the geopolitical analyst to study and report upon – situations in which the individual does not have adequately deep knowledge and must research. The geopolitical analyst would then communicate findings for those projects both narrowly with the investors who commissioned the work, and also with the wider investment platform via our collaborative research software platform (Teams).

External: in this aspect of the role, the geopolitical analyst will communicate his/her research and insights to our clients and to the wider world. In some instances, this communication will come during intimate meetings with clients performing regular "on-site" meetings, and in larger group settings such as conferences. A measure of the candidate's success would be the frequency with which our relationship managers, fund strategists, and internal and partner sales professionals request their presence. Lastly, the successful candidate would be expected, at a minimum, to publish insights with some regularity on the Newton website in the form of brief white papers, and could also potentially host a podcast available not just to clients and partners but also to the wider world.

To be successful in this role, we're seeking the following:
Experience working in geopolitical analysis, either in government, think tank, academia, or sell-side research industry
Master's degree in history, public policy, international relations, government or related fields preferred
