Job Description: Education: Minimum: High school education or equivalent required. Medical terminology.

Preferred: AAS degree in Medical Assistant/Secretarial Science or experience in business with emphasis on healthcare or related field.



Experience: Minimum: Demonstrates skills in data entry, business machines, (fax, copier,etc.) and telephone customer service. Knowledge and understanding of physician ordering practices as well as transcribing physician orders.
Preferred: Previous experience in a medical scheduling service.


Minimum: Ability to accurately type 30-40 words per minute. Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information with discretion and ability to deal with the people in a professional and courteous manner. Ability to meet deadlines, manage multiple priorities and enhance the spirit of teamwork through effective role modeling. Excellent interpersonal, communication and organization skills. Computer literacy. Willingly performs other duties as requested.
Preferred : Experience with Microsoft Office products and electronic medical record.

The staff member must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development of the lifespan and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed by pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patient group. Answer all telephone calls in a helpful, courteous and professional manner. Quickly identify the appropriate resources needed and the rules involved based on the desired appointment type. Accurately search for the optimal available time slot that satisfies the needs of the patient as well as the resource. (DEPARTMENTAL) - Identify and relay rule changes to other staff members as well as to the supervisor. Perform a three step plan of action when encountered with a scheduling conflict and issue. 1)Clearly identify the source of the conflict or issue, and the resources or rules involved. 2) Take corrective action to resolve and document the conflictor issue. 3) Communicate items 1 & 2 to the supervisor. Accurately identify patient; then input or update demographics, patient specific information and diagnosis for the specific appointment type. Understand and perform the proper menu choices that allow you to quickly input data needed to initiate a resource/patient encounter. Follow software instructions and information that leads you to qualifying the patient for a specific appointment type. Assist in providing training and orientation for co-workers in a consistent and thorough manner.
