Within the Office of the CFO, the Accounting department works closely with each of the lab's 7 Directorates to advise and execute the full array of accounting services and automated tools to meet the needs of researchers, support teams, customers, vendors and other stakeholders for our research and development project needs. This position will join the team performing responsibilities as a payroll professional for a diverse, international, and multi-state workforce of approximately 3,500 employees. Responsibilities will include, but not limited to: Bi-weekly multistate payroll processing and review. Preparation of payroll and benefits-related payments. Submit journal entries. Conduct general ledger account reconciliations. Exercise confidentiality with a high level of sensitivity and judgment related to sharing knowledge and the privacy of information handled on a daily basis. Interface with employees, managers, and HR on a variety of informational topics, including questions regarding NREL policies, procedures, timekeeping, IRS, and State tax information. Exercise excellent communication and high standards of customer service to business partners. Work independently with minimum supervision and maximum efficiency and accuracy. . Basic Qualifications Relevant Bachelor's Degree and 5 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience. Or, relevant Master's Degree and 3 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience. Or, relevant PhD or equivalent relevant education/experience. Or, relevant JD or equivalent relevant education/experience. Complete understanding and wide application of technical principles, theories and concepts in the field. General knowledge of other related disciplines. Considerable knowledge of laws, regulations, principles, procedures and practices related to specific field. Strong leadership, project management and problem solving skills. Ability to use various computer software programs. Must meet educational requirements prior to employment start date. Additional Required Qualifications Demonstrated experience in multistate payroll processing and other accounting processes in a fast-paced, highly regulated envrionment. General knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Experience with general ledger and journal entries. Ability to hold confidential information. Advanced MS Excel skills. Proficient Adobe skills. Skilled in analysis and problem solving. Good written and verbal communication skills. Ability to handle multiple projects concurrently. Proven ability to be process oriented, highly organized, and pays careful attention to details. Familiar with many different types of employee leave. A demonstrated team player with strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate. Experience using various computer software programs - such as payroll platforms and EBS. Annual Salary Range (based on full-time 40 hours per week) Job Profile: Professional III / Annual Salary Range: $73,200 - $120,800 NREL takes into consideration a candidate's education, training, and experience, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel (if any), external market and internal value, including seniority and merit systems, and internal pay alignment when determining the salary level for potential new employees.
