Brief Description of Duties:

The School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) at the University of the District of Columbia (UDC) is currently seeking responsible individuals to fill the position of postdoctoral scholar for federally funded research and education center. The newly established Center of Nanotechnology Research and Education (CNRE) seeks a postdoctoral scholar to assist in multiple center activities. CNRE provides opportunities to work in exciting and high-impact research fields such as nanoscale electronics, spintronics, magnetic materials, and solar cells. The successful candidate will be supervised by experienced and internationally renowned faculty advisors. The postdoctoral candidate may have the opportunity to collaborate with the nearby National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and other industrial partners, thus building their network for career advancement.

This position is primarily a temporary/training role in which the incumbent plays a substantive role in planning and conducting research using quantitative and qualitative methods to collect, analyze, and report data. In collaboration with the Principal Investigator, this role will participate in the planning of independent research, analyze and interpret data, publish results, represent the university at conferences and meetings, and may develop new theories and methodologies. This position may also assist the Principal Investigator in leading and directing the work of lower-level research staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

A successful postdoctoral scholar is responsible for:

Conducting high-quality research in the area of interest.Working closely with graduate and undergraduate students and contributing to joint projects.Participating in teaching and outreach activities and programs.Presenting and publishing research findings at conferences and in peer-reviewed publications.Preparing progress reports for funding sources.Seeking external funding to support and expand research activities to enhance the prestige and visibility of the University and to initiate research projects with government, private sector, and public entities. Minimum Job Requirements: Doctoral degree in a related field.Eligibility to work legally in the USA.Highly self-motivated and self-directed.Exemplary problem-solving skills: ability to work independently as well as in teams.Proficient in written and verbal communications. Information to Applicant: Condition of Employment: This is a sponsored program appointment. The duration of this appointment is subject to grant fund availability.
