Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Principal Linux Architect

to work in our Information Technology department. Our team works a 9×80 schedule located out of our Idaho Falls, Idaho facility with every other Friday off. Remote or Hybrid work opportunities may be available for this position.
You will report to the Senior Manager of Customer Engagement. You will lead the transformation and modernization of the Linux landscape within IT, employing cutting-edge automation and configuration management tools such as Ansible, Puppet, or Chef.
Responsibilities Include
Architect and maintain a robust, secure, and scalable Linux infrastructure, ensuring industry-leading uptime and service continuity.
Design and implement comprehensive sysadmin solutions tailored to complex projects within a Linux-focused technological framework.
Champion best practice methodologies for server and endpoint management across diverse operational environments, including virtual, cloud-based, and on-premises deployments.
Lead the automation of deployment processes, collaborating with IT teams to enhance workflows.
Be the Linux security authority, managing stringent access controls, user accounts, and group permissions.
Implement a cohesive Linux cloud strategy, integrating services with Azure, AWS, or other prominent cloud providers, and ensuring seamless operations across platforms.
Proficiently manage file systems, logical volumes, and network storage solutions, guaranteeing data integrity and accessibility.
Automate routine and complex system tasks through scripting, reducing manual overhead and increasing operational efficiency.
Create strategic guidance to enhance the stability, security, efficiency, and scalability of the Linux environment, promoting a standardized and supportable operating system deployment model.
Engineer a robust disaster recovery plan specific to the Linux environment, ensuring alignment with INL's Continuity of Operations (COOP) plan as mandated by presidential directives.
Regularly audit system backups, guaranteeing understanding of organizational goals and recovery requirements.
Minimum Requirements
A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
9 years of senior-level experience in Linux system administration.
Demonstrable experience with deploying, managing, and optimizing cloud-based infrastructures.
Extensive experience with SQL databases, including design, implementation, and maintenance.
Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Bash, Python, Perl) to automate tasks and improve processes.
A solid understanding of networking principles and protocols to ensure seamless system integration and communication.
This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "L" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.
Desired Knowledge/Abilities
Industry-recognized certifications such as RHCE (Red Hat Certified Engineer), LFCE (Linux Foundation Certified Engineer), or CompTIA Linux+.
Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
Participation in open-source projects or active membership in relevant professional communities.
Job Information
The pay range for this position is: Level #4 ($109,260 – $223,908) / Level #5 ($130,980 – $268,680). At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
