We are looking for a dynamic Program Manager to lead and inspire our talented team of Physicists and Researchers. The research team focuses their work on lasers, frequency combs, atomic clocks, photonics, and ultracold atomic gases to develop novel positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT) instrumentation and techniques. The team is directly embedded on Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, NM working alongside the Air Force Research Laboratory government team. Position Overview:
As the Program Manager for our Quantum Sensing and Timing team, you will play a critical role in overseeing research projects, facilitating collaboration, and ensuring the successful execution of our strategic objectives. You will be responsible for managing timelines, budgets, and resources while fostering a culture of innovation and excellence within the team. You will also contribute directly to one or more research projects, based on interest and discussions with the government team. Key Responsibilities:Leads a multidisciplinary team of Scientists and Researchers in quantum physics and photonicsConverts technical and mission needs of AFRL customer into project scope and requirementsDevelops and oversees project plans, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and timelinesCoordinates research activities, allocates resources, and manages budgets effectivelyFacilitates collaboration among team members and with external customersMonitors progress and provides regular updates to senior leadership and customersPromotes a culture of scientific excellence, creativity, and continuous improvementContributes directly to one or more research projects Required Qualifications:Master's degree or PhD in Physics, Quantum Science, Photonics, or a related fieldProven experience in project or program management, preferably in a scientific or research environmentUnderstanding of AMO/quantum/photonics principles and current trendsExcellent leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and guide a diverse teamExceptional organizational and problem-solving abilitiesProficiency in project management tools and methodologiesStrong communication skills, both verbal and writtenMust be a U.S. citizen and have the ability to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance Preferred Qualifications:Substantial experience with direct customer interactions and embedded teamsWorking knowledge of Department of Defense contracting structures and vocabularyWorking knowledge of Agile/Lean/DevOps management approaches and toolsDirect laboratory environment experience At SDL, we take pride in and highly value our employees.
