The Center for the Transformation of Schools (CTS) at UCLA's School of Education and Information Studies (Ed&IS) is dedicated to partnering with the education ecosystem to bring about systems change through Humanizing Research, Validating Practices, and Transformative Policies with key stakeholders to support equitable educational outcomes for historically underserved students. Position Summary The Project Director, Educator Diversity is responsible for developing, managing, and executing the Educator Diversity project for the duration of the grant. Under the general oversight of CTS' Research Director, Executive Director, and Faculty Directors, the Project Director will independently serve as the leader and primary point of contact with the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and key statewide partners to conduct a statewide study on Educator Diversity in California.
The Project Director will develop and facilitate the design of the study with focus groups, a team of prominent researchers of color, K-12 and higher education system representatives with expertise in issues related to educator diversity. The study will be supplemented with briefs that identify policy interventions and models that can be undertaken by state policymakers and locals in the short-term and long-term to improve educator diversity. CTS research will be produced with the direct engagement of students, educators, scholars, postsecondary education system leaders, advocacy organizations, and state policymakers to inform the effort and to begin laying the foundation for a state coalition to drive the urgency of the issue.
The Project Director will work closely with CTS Research Director, Executive Director, and Faculty Directors to support deliverables for the grant that will advance the goals of the project. This includes establishing the research agenda and study design and analysis, identifying related research projects, scholarly networks, project development efforts, and supporting school, district, university, county, and state practices tied to the grant's goals. The Project Director will also be responsible for facilitating quarterly meetings with research advisory members, meetings with Center staff supporting the project, and periodic reporting to the foundation partners.
The Project Director will co-develop a timeline, evaluation metrics, and project management benchmarks with the respective school site and partners and generate tools for measuring progress for the study.

Salary & Compensation

*UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Qualifications 5 to 10 years experience implementing and managing projects, staff, and students (Required)5+ years working in education policy and/or research. (Preferred)Working knowledge of and demonstrated skill in all phases of educational research, evaluation, and assessment sufficient to understand, plan, manage, and conduct research and evaluation projects. (Required)Skill in working with policymakers, practitioners, educators, and agency personnel to articulate and respond to their needs and to develop productive relationships. (Required)Ability to work independently, prioritize assignments, and follow through with minimal direction in order to perform effectively under conditions of frequent interruptions, fluctuating workloads, and conflicting time demands. (Required)Interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships and ongoing communications with persons of various social, educational, and cultural backgrounds (Required)Skill in speaking in a clear and distinct professional manner to individuals at various organizational levels by using appropriate vocabulary and grammar to obtain and convey information. (Required)Ability to establish and maintain a broad range of campus, school district, and statewide liaisons to interact effectively with Program/Project directors and various educational organizations. (Required)Ability to prepare and edit correspondence and reports in a concise, logical, and grammatically correct manner. (Required)Ability to supervise personnel, including organizing workflow to accomplish established objectives, delegating responsibility, training, and evaluating effectiveness. (Required)Ability to organize material, information, and personnel in a systematic way to optimize efficiency and minimize duplication of effort. (Required)Demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret policy as well as the ability to translate policy and apply policy into day-to-day work.
