We are seeking a highly skilled Proposal Manager/Technical Writer to lead the development of competitive proposals and create clear, concise technical documentation.
The ideal candidate will manage the entire proposal lifecycle, working closely with subject matter experts (SMEs), sales, and technical teams to ensure compelling, compliant, and high-quality proposals.
Additionally, they will create technical documentation such as manuals, reports, and presentations that effectively communicate complex information.
Responsibilities Proposal Management: Lead the end-to-end proposal development process, including planning, coordinating, writing, editing, and submitting proposals.
Manage proposal timelines, ensuring all deliverables are met on time and proposals are compliant with RFP/RFI requirements.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (sales, engineering, operations, and SMEs) to gather necessary information for proposals.
Ensure proposals align with the company's strategic goals and reflect a thorough understanding of customer needs.
Technical Writing: Write and edit technical documents, including user manuals, system documentation, product guides, and reports.
Translate complex technical concepts into clear, user-friendly language for both technical and non-technical audiences.
Ensure consistency, clarity, and accuracy in all technical documentation, adhering to company and industry standards.
Content Development & Customization: Develop and maintain a library of reusable proposal content, including technical descriptions, case studies, resumes, and project summaries.
Tailor proposal responses to address specific customer requirements, incorporating feedback from technical teams and leadership.
Create proposal templates and ensure consistency in formatting, branding, and tone throughout the document.
Compliance & Quality Assurance: Ensure proposals are compliant with all customer requirements, including formatting, content structure, and submission guidelines.
Review proposals and technical documents for grammar, punctuation, and consistency.
Conduct final quality checks on all submissions to ensure high standards of professionalism.
Proposal Strategy & Solutioning: Collaborate with the sales and business development teams to develop proposal strategies that differentiate the company from competitors.
Lead brainstorming sessions with SMEs and technical staff to develop winning themes and solutions for proposals.
Analyze RFPs, RFIs, and RFQs to identify key win themes and customer priorities.
Document Management: Maintain version control and organization of all proposal and technical documentation.
Ensure all documentation is properly archived and accessible to relevant team members for future reference.
Maintain an organized repository of proposal templates, technical documentation, and other relevant resources.
Market & Competitive Research: Conduct market research to identify customer needs, industry trends, and competitor offerings to improve proposal effectiveness.
Incorporate research findings into proposals to create more targeted and competitive responses.
Team Collaboration & Communication: Work closely with SMEs to extract technical information and ensure accuracy in proposals and documentation.
Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure proposals accurately reflect project capabilities and goals.
Facilitate proposal review meetings and debrief sessions to continuously improve processes.
Qualifications Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Business, or a related technical field.
8+ years of experience in proposal management and technical writing, preferably in a technology, engineering, or government contracting environment.
Strong understanding of proposal development processes, including RFP, RFI, and RFQ submissions.
Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills, with a focus on clarity and accuracy.
Ability to manage multiple proposals and projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Adobe Acrobat, and other documentation tools.
Familiarity with industry-specific software (e.g., SharePoint, Salesforce) is a plus.
$50 - $60 an hour
