Duties & ResponsibilitiesReporting to the Director, Plant Responses and the Environment, the successful candidate will conduct high quality scientific research that advances Vineland's innovation goals.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (*A more comprehensive position outline is available upon request.) Prepare and execute experiments with cross-functional teams that support the goals of Vineland's programsWork collaboratively on multi-disciplinary teams that may include other researchers, business development and marketing staff, clients and industry stakeholdersTake direction from program leaders and be accountable for assigned research targetsSecure external funding from granting agencies and industry partners to support research activitiesManage the day-to-day activities associated with different projects, including monitoring and documenting progress, managing and interpreting dataProvide advice to Vineland's science, farm and greenhouse teams on the implementation of plant production practicesPrepare quotes and budgets for contract research opportunities and track project costs to meet budgetPrepare agronomic and financial reports to support commercialization of new cropsQualificationsPost-secondary degree (BSc or MSc) in horticulture, plant biology, plant sciences or plant physiologyPhD in horticulture, plant biology, plant sciences or plant physiology preferredMinimum of three to five years of research experience in areas of plant science and/or biological science or environmental horticulture scienceOver four years interacting with cross-functional teamsCertification in agronomy and/or certification as a crop advisorExperience managing and overseeing multiple on-going initiatives simultaneouslyExperience doing research to support the commercialization of productsWorking knowledge of budgeting and financial managementDemonstrated ability to manage a small teamWe offer: Competitive salary + bonus structureRRSP matching planPaid vacationCompany eventsInclude: A cover letter stating how your experience qualifies you for the positionLocation: 4890 Victoria Avenue North, Vineland Station, ON L0R 2E0
